Im a chicken--its that simple.
Im scared of losing the beautifully detailed items I worked so hard
for to some random player 30 levels higher than me who decides to jump
me. Thats right, I admit it--Im a PvP chicken. You heard it here
first and, well, Im not ashamed. After all, being ashamed
wouldnt change it. Thats why I stick to the PvE servers.
I can explain where this fear comes from, aside from the horror stories
people are always telling. Before I learned about the world of
MMOs--yes, there was such a time--I used to play a lot of Delta Force
with my dad. I still shudder when I remember standing up to move
forward only to find that ten different enemies were suddenly firing at
me...plus one sniper from behind. I never had a chance. I played that
game mostly to hang out with my dad (can anyone say Daddys girl?) but
I remember the anger and frustration those attacks used to cause me.
Using my vivid imagination, and knowing my own temper, I realized it
would be much worse if my hard work in MMOs, which I am much more
attached to, was washed down the drain by such a thing.
I struggle enough at times with defeating the NPCs, monsters of various
types, and other environmental factors in a PvE environment...and the
anger it causes me is bad enough without having to deal with other
players who are out to kill me.
Heres an example: I always knew that my ambition would kill me. One
day, I found myself thinking, Oh, red con mobs are hard--well, I like a
challenge! Turned out to be more of a challenge than I could handle.
Now dont get me wrong, I brought that death on myself, and I knew it
as I died, but I learned very quickly that if a monster was red, and I
was alone, I was staying far away. I know now that, to a point, I
can keep the computer-controlled challenges at bay until I am ready for
them or in a big enough group. However, I know that I personally have
no hope if I encounter that one rude player, level 50 to my 12, who
decides I look like a good snack.
I dont mind the arenas that allow PvP for practice, challenge, fun, or
whatever--I like that I can enter voluntarily and leave when I need to.
At least there I know I wont be slaughtered when I run to the bathroom
after my fifth soda and two hours of running around Telon. I just dont
trust that on a PvP server.
Of course, all of the readers who play PvP are probably going, But I
dont gank lowbies!

style="width: 82px; height: 80px;" align="right"> Thats not right.
Yes, I know that not everyone does this, and some people absolutely
love PvP. Im not one of them, but the PvP-lovers have my full support
to go at it if they wish. I understand the allure and the challenge it
presents. I admire the bravery and courage these players have to risk
what theyve worked so hard on to the sort of evil guy who would eat me
for lunch.
So, to all of those brave souls who play PvP...enjoy. The rest of you
are welcome to hide behind the couch here with me. I even have a guard
dog. (Ok so hes more likely to lick you than growl, but I can pretend!)
It takes guts to play on the PvP server...or is that insanity? Someone
will have to tell me, because I am staying firmly in my chicken corner
where I can control how and when I risk losing all my hard work. Its
not the dying Im afraid of--its the complete lack of any chance
against much higher level players. Yep thats what gets to me. What
about you?
What is your opinion of PvP?
- Im behind the couch with Aunraye--I cant do the PvP thing
- I only play PvP when I really need to beat something up;
otherwise its PvE for me - I like PvP in controlled situations like arenas
- I love PvP, but I also need some stress free time on the PvE only
servers - Bring it on! Nothing is too dangerous when it comes to PvP
- Puh! I'm the one running around ganking the lowbies!
