Dwarfs

Small but sturdy. The dwarfs of the Old World are one of the oldest races out there, and even though their power is waning in their later years, the dwarfs are still a great force. Armed with modern and ancient weaponry; the dwarfs possess a powerful army capable of dealing with most threats that the old world can throw at them.

The Dwarfs are an ancient and industrious race that is long past its prime. Their once-great empire of Karak Ankor now lies in ruins and many of the Dwarfs' mighty mountain holds have been abandoned or conquered by Orcs and Goblins, with whom the Dwarfs have warred for centuries. It is not uncommon to hear a Dwarf wistfully recall the great glories of the past, observing bitterly that nothing the Dwarfs do in this day and age can compare to the majesty of what once was.

An enormously proud people, the Dwarfs are quick to react to any slight, real or imagined, and remember any such infraction for years, even passing on the responsibility of vengeance to their heirs through their Books of Grudges. It is perhaps because of their obstinate pride that the Dwarfs refuse to openly admit that their culture is slowly creeping towards its nadir. Inwardly, however, they know that they are a doomed race. This gives them a uniquely dour outlook upon the world and perhaps explains their great fondness for drowning their sorrows in tankard after tankard of ale.

In fact, the only thing that the Dwarfs love more than a good mug of ale is gold. A Dwarf in the throes of goldlust is a thing to behold. The race's legendary drive and stamina is brought into sharp relief when they are presented with the opportunity to acquire gold. As miners and experts on ore and metals, the Dwarfs are without peer. Items of Dwarf craftsmanship and engineering are the most valuable in all the world, revered even by the Elves.

Current Information

Having recently lost their city of Karak Eight Peaks, the dwarfs are reeling from a powerful blow dealt to them by their mortal enemies the Orcs & Goblins. Intent on retaking their lost territory and striking against their foul Greenskin enemies, the dwarfs are secretly hoping for assistance from their allies, the Empire of men. There is little else the dwarfs wish, then to see the Greenskins eradicated and their homes retaken.

Privately, the High King is gravely concerned. Rumors that the greenskin forces are led by a Warboss with the strength of ten Orcs and a Shaman with magical abilities never before seen would not normally concern him, as Dwarfs are prone to exaggerate. However, the fall of Karak Eight Peaks cannot be ignored, nor can its effect on the morale of his people. Secretly, the High King dispatches a rider to the Empire to alert Karl Franz of the possible danger to his own lands should the Dwarfs fail to halt the greenskin invasion. Though the High King is too proud to ask the Emperor for help, he hopes the urgency of his message will result in just that.

Views on Allies:

Elves - The ages past War of the Beard has created a deep rooted grudge for the dwarfs when it comes to dealing with High Elves. Currently the dwarfs hold the crown of the Elven Pheonix King as compensation for the travesty that the Elves perpetrated against the dwarfs, as no good Dwarf lets a grudge go unpunished. In more modern times however, the dwarfs realize the need for allies, and with the Empire as a mediator; the dwarfs and High Elves are able to stand together in face or larger threats.

Humans - During the time of Sigmar (the Empire man-god) the great civilization of the dwarfs was teetering on the brink of complete collapse. It was Sigmar who saved the Dwarven High King from the hordes of the Orcs & Goblins, forging an alliance between the two races that would be one of the greatest alliances in the history of the Old World. It is for these reasons that the dwarfs stand side by side with the forces of the Empire.

Views on Enemies:

Chaos - As one of the darker forces in the Warhammer World, Chaos is opposed to all that do not worship their fel gods, and it is for this reason that the dwarfs stand against them. Assisting the Empire in several wars against the foul forces of Chaos, the dwarfs now know a great hatred for the servants of the ruinous powers as they are known.

Orcs & Goblins- One of the few forces that a Dwarf would dare to stand beside an Elf against, the Greenskins are the most hated of the Dwarven enemies. Since it was the massive hordes of Orcs & Goblins that brought the Dwarf civilization to its knees, there is no love between these races and the dwarfs make it their personal crusade to exterminate the Greenskins wherever they can be found!

Dark Elves - To a dwarf, "an elf is an elf". Since the Dark Elves continue to raid Dwarven and Empire settlements, the dwarfs see no reason in not punishing the Dark brethren of their High Elf allies. To some dwarfs, killing Dark Elves is more then adequate a trade-off for being allied with High Elves.
