The Burning Crusade has kept World of Warcraft players quite busy in the two months since its release.

It's no wonder, with an entire new continent to explore, new races to level, thousands of new quests to undertake,

new instances to explore, new factions to impress, a new battleground to conquer and an entirely new player vs player form of combat for

players to challenge themselves with.

But is all of this new content enough? Some seem to be left with a feeling of dissatisfaction. Though there's a

lot to do, they are left bored. So, let's take a look at each type of new content to see if, as a whole, they add to

"enough" new content. Yes, this is most likely old news to anyone who has glanced at the internet since January,

but the best way to make a decision is to look at all the angles.

New Continent

The Outland, while not as vast as Azeroth, provides a large amount of land to explore. Each zone holds many quests,

new factions to become acquainted with, and challenges to overcome. The new lands have stunning terrain that at

times can be breathtaking.

Along with the new continent comes new skill trainers that allow you to train your professions higher than the

previous cap of 300 skill points. Flying mounts are also available in the new continent, giving players control

over the air as well as the ground.

However, even with the new continent, players feel that they are missing out. All class trainers and auction houses

are located back in Azeroth. This creates an inconvenience to the high level players in the Outlands, as they have

to travel back in order to trade or train. Blizzard has tried to make things easier with the inclusion of portals

to each of the major cities located in the neutral city of Shattrath. They've also stated several times that this is

a necessary evil, so that the older cities would not be left abandoned.

New Races

Two new races bring new starting lands and quests for players to explore. Though these are located in Azeroth, the

zones are not available to those without the expansion pack. For lore nuts, each of these new races have lore that

fits in with the former races and gives their reasoning for joining with the faction that they are allied with.

Each race also has new quests to help get started. These new quests include many original quests that the older

races do not see. For example, a quest for low-level draenei enables them to ride an epic mount for a short amount

of time. Blood elves get translocation orbs for ease of travel to difficult locations. The races also have quests

that reward them with a bag to get them started on the habit of hording items in their inventory.

Even with the inclusion of the new original quests, Blizzard has put in a ton of the same type of starting quests

that veteran players are used to seeing. Also, the new racial lands end all too quickly. Once you have completed

all of the quests in the starting areas, it's back to the same old grind in the same old lands that have been in the

game since release. There's not another change until after level 60 when you can enter into the Outland.

That's not to mention that the new races do bear physical similarities to the former races. Blizzard has even been

accused of only slightly altering old character models to make the new races.

New Quests

Between the starting areas of the new races and the Outland, the Burning Crusade has brought many new quests to the

game. Players can also find new quests scattered around Azeroth as well. The expansion has provided players who

thrive on questing a treasure trove of objectives to complete.

However, though so many new quests have been added, many players are dissatisfied and even bored by them. These

quests reflect many of the same quest objectives that have been required in every zone throughout every level. The

only thing that seems to change is the difficulty of the mobs.

New Instances

A lot of new instances have been added with the expansion. There are instances available for groups from five to up to twenty-five players. Almost every new zone in Outland has one or more instances within it. These instances give players new challenges to face and new gear to obtain.

The downside to some of these instances is the attunement required for entrance. Casual players really don't have a chance to get to see the insides of these because of the massive amount of time it takes to get their characters ready for them.

New Factions

The Outland has put new emphasis on faction reputation. Not only are there equipment, recipe, and item rewards to

be gained from a high faction reputation, but some areas of the game are only unlocked through keys obtained through

reputation. This can cause a strain on players who dislike grinding reputation or who lack the time to do so.

New PvP Areas

The new battleground provides a welcome change for PvP'ers. It gives a new setting for those who enjoy group PvP. But the big change in PvP that came with the expansion is the arena. Two arenas, located in Outland, provide the setting for this all-out, last man standing intense form of PvP. Not only do players get the chance to win

incredible new gear and items (including an extra-fast epic flying mount) but they can also compete in the 5v5

tournament to win global glory.

So now that we've taken a look at the new additions from the expansion, the question stands: Is there enough new content?

My Opinion

Honestly, I think there's no question that there definitely was enough new content added to the expansion. I am the ultimate casual gamer. As a working mom and wife I'm lucky to be able to play once a day sometimes. Be that as it may, I have found a ton of things to keep me busy. Everytime I log on, I have to decide just what I want to do that day because there's so many options. I could go questing, join an arena battle, try out a new instance...I never lack for things to do.

I do admit, when I got to Nagrand and saw a Nesingwary camp, I groaned inwardly. Since I love a good storyline, I appreciated that they had brought a notable Azeroth figure to Outland. However, the quests were essentially the same as the ones from Stranglethorn Vale, just more difficult. So I felt the same sense of "is this over yet" that I had gotten with the original Nessy quests. I was thankful that, at least, there were no scattered novel pages to collect this time.

Content, in my opinion, is just new things to try out and experience. There's quite a lot that I haven't been able to try out yet, such as the new battleground and the higher level instances. I know that a few of the players in my guild who have much more time to play than I have are still excited about all of the new things that they are able to do. So, I think that, even though some of the new content is quite similar to former content that the sheer amount of it kind of makes up for the amount of redundancy.

  • YES! I'm so busy in game, I can't decide where to start each time I log in.
  • NO! There's not enough to do. I'm bored already.
  • There's a lot to do, but it's boring because it's the same old grind.
  • Eh, who cares? As long as I can go kill stuff, I'm all good.
