EVE Online Senior Producer Arnar Hrafn Gylfason (CCP Zulu) has posted a new dev blog to address speculation and rumors that have been circulating since the posting of the Council of Stellar Management 5 meeting minutes. The first topic CCP Zulu chose to address was the development of Incarna, which he notes as having 9 teams consisting of a total of 70 developers working on it. CCP's other project, Dust 514, has only one team consisting of seven developers working on the unique task of integrating the MMOFPS with EVE Online.
Were also committed to producing and launching an MMOFPS hybrid. What were doing is unheard of in the gaming industry, namely linking together a console FPS (MMOFPS) with a classic PC MMORPG. Let that sink in for a minute. CCP is the first company in the world to do something like this. First. Ever. The resource cost" on the EVE side for that is a team continuing on development of the Planetary Interaction feature (the primary link between the two) for the next three releases, delivering immediate, meaningful value into EVE Online and making game development history while theyre at it.
CCP Zulu goes on to explain that there are also 3 teams consisting of 22 developers working on In-space features for EVE Online as well as 1 team of 10 focusing on EVE Gate. There are a total of 14 teams accounted for in the blog, but CCP has plans for 18 teams. CCP Zulu has listed plans for prioritizing development, but despite having a fair amount of resources allocated to future EVE projects and development not every player is happy about the current assignment of development focus as they feel certain elements like the Planetary Interaction feature are not getting the attention they need.
