As you might recall, gPotato recently announced that they would be restricting access to Aika since their licensing agreement only covers North America. This has understandably upset a lot of the community, who will no longer be able to access the game from outside North America due to the restrictions. To make matters worse, the Cash Shop within the game has been operational for over a week and several players have been making use of it only to now find themselves without access to the game. gPotato has issued an official statement to let players know that they are trying to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, licensing agreements will only allow them to do so much by way of regional access. Jikhan Jung, Gala-Net CEO had this to say about the current situation.

“The Aika situation is complex, and we are working diligently to arrive at an agreeable solution.  It was not our intent to disrupt the player base, as our mission is to promote strong online gaming communities.  We hope our players will continue to enjoy Aika, and we thank them for their patience as we work towards a resolution.”

The team also updated their recent announcement about the IP restrictions, informing players that a decision has not been made on accounts created outside of North America, but if an account was created and can no longer be accessed due to the restrictions, a full refund will be granted on a case-by-case basis for gPotato purchases.

Dear Aika players,

Many of you have voiced concerns as to the effect of the recently announced service restriction on existing Aika accounts. We’d like to update you on this matter.

Currently, a decision has not been reached regarding the status of existing Aika accounts which were registered outside of North America. The issue is under intensive review by management. In the event that existing accounts are blocked from playing Aika as a result of this decision, those players whose accounts would be unable to access the game will be issued a full refund on a case-by-case basis of any gPotato purchases they have made specifically for or in Aika.

We are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. We will confirm and announce all details by April 30th, 2010. We very much appreciate your patience, and we sincerely apologize for the restriction’s negative impact on the Aika community.

 - The Aika Team -

More information on the resolution will be announced on April 30th, 2010. Stay tuned as we'll post all the details when they become available.
