With Patch
4.3 pending and another
expansion probably just over the horizon for World of Warcraft most of
us are focusing on the changes that will soon be coming to the game we
love. Just for a second though lets enter the Twilight Zone, complete
with poorly rendered wavy lines and bad but very creepy music, and
imagine we are in another reality where we have complete and total
control over World of Warcraft.
Here in this alternate universe
you could add anything your heart desires or choose to strike down
those changes that once made us /face palm in real life. This is most
likely a fantasy that many of us have entertained. The question is if
the game was at your mercy and the powers of the gaming gods were yours
to wield what changes would you make? What new exciting things would
you add and which would vanish forever? Here is what my trip into the
World of Warcraft twilight zone would look like:
Reintroduction of Class Quests
Who here didn’t love
the class quests? Well tough luck if you didn’t and you are
playing in my universe because class quests would be back, redone for
the current expansion, and available to every class. Not only did I
enjoy my own personal class quests (who didn‘t get a little
thrill of excitement as they completed the Warlock quest line for their
Dreadsteed?), I felt like it helped me understand my class a tad bit
better, and that I had actually earned something by completing the
quest instead of being spoon fed everything as is currently the norm.
Goodbye to Blade’s
Edge
Say bye-bye to
Blade’s Edge Mountains. Seriously it took everything I had
not to just nix the whole Burning Crusade expansion, but since I loved
Black Temple, Blood Elves, and yes even Draenei, I downsized a bit and
focused my avenging wraith for what I consider to be the worst
expansion so far onto one particular zone in that expansion. The bane
of my existence as I leveled up, Blade’s Edge Mountains
somehow manages to define everything I hated about Burning Crusade and
therefore must be destroyed in some fiery implosion
of doom.

la vista, Blade's Edge.
Some Love for Draenei and
Blood Elves
Speaking of the Burning Crusade
expansion, lets talk about the Draenei and the Blood Elves. Most of us
love to hate them, but I think they need at least a tiny bit of love as
well. In Cataclysm, most of the races have seen improvements upon
their starting zones, making them more engaging and overall just more
fun to play. And by most I mean every race except for Draenei
and Blood Elves who have been literally given the cold shoulder.
Instead of hoping these races are simply forgotten their starting zones
would get a full on revamp bringing them up to date with the rest of
the races in World of Warcraft. I mean, its not really their fault they
were introduced in The Burning Crusade
No More Crazy Easy Leveling
Since I’m recently in
the process of leveling up a new alt and have gotten to witness the
current leveling experience first hand I have decided that in my
version of World of Warcraft, leveling will be slowed down, but only
slightly. While I don’t think that it should take years to
level, it also shouldn’t be a walk in the park either.
Leveling should take long enough that you actually get a feel for the
class you are playing, but should not be so long that the player feels
like there is no end in sight.
One Free Change for Everyone!
Playing WoW is an expensive
endeavor for me, especially since my wife and I currently have three
accounts and have server transferred several times. Because of the cost
we don’t even consider race, faction, or any other of the
paid changes you can make to your character. In my perfect world each
character would get 1 free change in each of these categories every
year. Any changes made after the first change in that year would cost.
This would save players substantial
amounts of money, while still providing some easy revenue.
Fix the Storyline
One of the major things bugging
me right now about WoW is that the designers of the game spent tons of
time working on the various expansions. However, what they
didn’t spend much time on was making sure the storyline
flowed correctly from one expansion to the other. Now as you level up
you find the storyline is as twisted as a pretzel and most players will
be left scratching their head wondering what exactly just happened at
the end. In my reality the storyline would be fixed and tweaked as
needed so that it would flow uniformly throughout the game leading the
player on a journey that not only cover’s Azeroth’s
history but easily transitions into its future.

newest Tauren racial ability.
Add a Macro Maker
Despite my aversion to them,
macros are super helpful, but can get pretty complicated. This can be
pretty overwhelming for some people (myself included) so I propose an
in game macro maker that would, with a few easy clicks, make a macro
for you. I’m not exactly sure how this would work and
I’m sure it would be difficult to implement in game but
it’s still a darn good idea!
New Tauren Racial Ability
Stampede will be, at least in
my World of Warcraft, the newest Tauren racial ability and an idea
I’ve been mulling around for ages. Now we all know that
Tauren are basically the result of some humans getting freaky with
cows; well that might not be how it happened, but you get the
general idea. Because of their affinity with cattle it only seems fair
that they have a cattle like racial. Stampede will cause the Tauren who
uses it, and 2 other nearby Tauren, to charge a target in unison
causing physical damage and stunning the target for 5 seconds as well
as causing an effect that increases the attack power of the Tauren for
10 seconds. Not to mention the chance on impact to impale the target on the leading Tauren's horns...basically making Stampede the best racial ability ever.
Overpowered? Maybe…but its tons of fun!
There are some other small
things I would change about WoW, but besides the things I’ve
mentioned above I think overall the game is pretty solid. So now that
you’ve seen my perfect version of World of Warcraft,
hopefully it has gotten you thinking about what your perfect idea of
the game would be. If so share some of the changes and additions you
would make in the comments section below. The possibilities are
endless. Oh and Blizzard, if you are reading this and like my ideas,
give me a call…there are plenty more where that came from...we’ll do lunch.
