Collecting pets is an obsession for some in World of Warcraft and rightfully so. The cute critters that follow you around as you explore all of Azeroth and beyond provide a nifty way to customize your character and provide a great side attraction.
Weve been uncovering the different ways to find the various pets, from the recent daily quest hub of the Molten Front, to the deep dark dungeons littering the landscape, and all the way to the recently released Darkmoon Faire. Now its time to look at the ones you can find in Cataclysm.
Yes, we might also be done with the expansion, but that just means there isnt much to do and with the upcoming pet battle system we might as well collect em all. The Cataclysm sundered Azeroth, but it didnt sunder the ability for random critters to follow us. So lets get started catching em all.
Baradin Fox
Foxes are cool and they seem to roam all over the PvP hub that is Baradin Hold. This good thing as theres a small chance that a Fox Kit will drop from one of these innocent, wandering predators. The Fox Kit will then teach you how to summon a red, somewhat fierce-looking Baradin Fox.
The faction balloon is one of the easiest pets to get.
The Alliance/Horde Balloons
If youre Horde or Alliance this is probably one of the first pets youre going to get from the new levelling experience. Its a simple floating balloon emblazoned with the faction logos and both are quest rewards from the level 20 quest Blown Away.
The quest is given by Jaga in Orgrimmar and Vin in Stormwind and sees you running around the cities retrieving Windswept Balloons. After youve collected five, youll get the balloon as a reward, alongside some cash and XP.
Crimson Lasher
This little fire-breathing plant was introduced with 4.2 and is obtainable from the Molten Front quest hub. You do have to complete quite a lot of dailies to obtain it though as its only purchasable (for 1500g) from Ayla Shadowstorm once youve created a Moonwell in phase four. However you can also gain a temporary Crimson Lasher during the daily quests where it has its own little questline and acts as a combat companion.
See our Molten Front Pet Guide for more details.
Elementium Geode
Yes, its a mining pet! Getting the Geode is relatively simple: just mine Elementium Ore from the various nodes in the Cataclysm zones in Azeroth. The Geode itself is a large rotating collection of floating crystals which actually looks pretty awesome, even if it doesnt do much.
If youre not a miner, dont despair as these turn up on the Auction House quite regularly and usually retail for a couple of hundred gold.
Hyjal Bear Cub
Hyjal is littered with this little cubs, we get to rescue them from trees and what not but who doesnt want one of their very own? Well, if youre fresh from getting a Crimson Lasher at the Molten Front, then youre in luck. As long as youve unlocked the fourth phase of dailies, you can purchase from Varlan Highbough at Malfurions Reach for just 1500g.

Withers
Ah treants, theyre not just for Druids anymore. Oh no, anyone can get him although the Alliance have to jump through a dozen more hoops to get him than the Horde.
Withers is a special kind of treant though, he spawns as a large pet and, gradually, withers away over thirty minuted or so becoming tiny. To return him to full-size, all you need to do is jump in water. Horde players just need to cross Apothecary Furrows with a little silver to gain this companion during their travels in Darkshore. The Alliance have to complete a truly epic quest-chain which ends with Remembrance of Auberdine before he is given to them as a quest reward by Cerellean Whiteclaw.
Withers in a particularly unique pet.
Pebbles
Pebbles is obtained from an achievement from the Therazane daily hub. Complete Lost in the Deeps ten times and youll get the achievement Rock Lover and Pebbles as an accomplice. Who doesnt want their own rock as a pet?
Tiny Shale Spider
This little spider is a drop from the rare spawn Jadefang in Deepholm. Not only do people want to kill him for the pet, Beast mastery hunters also want Jadefang as hes an Exotic Beast which makes him a much-prized pet. Fortunately he spawns in a specific nook but this cant be accessed by foot, although you can blow yourself up there using Rickets Tickers. So, if you can get up there and kill him, the pet is all yours.
Rustberg Sea Gull
This gull is purchased in Tol Barad. Yes, you can finally have your own rat of the sky. He costs 50 Tol Barad Commendations and can be bought from Quartermaster Brazie or Pogg, depending on your faction. You also have to be honored with Baradins Wardens or Hellscreams Reach. So why do you want this gull? Well of all the birds in-game, the Rustberg Sea Gull has a unique model which is actually quite impressive to look at.
As always, we're keen to know which of these little critters is your favourite Cataclysm pet. Perhaps there's an elusive one you're trying to get? Let us know in the comments below.
