One of the newest mechanics to be implemented with Book 10 is the reputation system. Through a variety of task you can earn favor with one of the many factions of Middle earth. There are several ways to gain the favor of a given faction. Some require you to craft or collect items while others will want to see you slay their enemies. This guide is going to introduce you to each of those factions and get you started on earning their favor.
The first thing you need to know when dealing with reputation is your standing with a given faction. You can see your standing with a faction by opening your character sheet and clicking on the tab in the lower right corner titled Reputation.
Each phase of reputation requires a certain amount of reputation points to advance. The first step is 10,000 reputation points. This will advance you to acquaintance. The many phases of faction are as follows. Each of the points for each level of standing is on its own. 10,000 will take you to step one, but you will need an additional 20,000 to make it the next step. The first 10,000 will not count towards the next standing and so on.
Acquaintance: 10,000 Reputation
Friend: 20,000 Reputation
Ally: 25,000 Reputation
Kindred: 30,000 Reputation
There are several factions within Middle Earth and they all want something different. Each faction has repeatable quest that you can do over and over to gain reputation points with that faction, but you will only receive experience for the first turn in. Everything after that is purely reputation points. Lets examine each of them.
The Men of Bree:
Quest Level: 42
The first quest you can obtain from the Men of Bree can be located near the Hunter trainer in the southwest corner of Bree. The quest giver is Tad Leafcutter. He will want you to gather ten Barrow Treasures from a new dungeon in the Barrow Downs called Haudh Iarchith. The upside to this quest is you can continue to gather the reputation items even after you have the ten needed. This makes things very convenient for you to stay and camp them rather than having to run back each time you get ten. Once you have accumulated enough treasures to amount to ten thousand reputation you will be able to enter the lodge behind Tad. There you acquire a few items from the local reputation merchant and start a new quest, but well cover that at a later time.
If woodworking is your thing you can gain a trade-skill reputation quest from Maggie Smallwood. She is in front of Tad near the Hunter trainer in Bree.
The Mathom Society:
Quest Level: 35
The Mathom Society is located at the Mathom House in the northern section of Michel Delving. A little Hobbit named Greylong Bottomley is looking for Mathoms and like the Men of Bree they want you to collect ten of them. You can collect as many as you want before heading to turn these in thus saving yourself some time. The Hobbit that gives this quest lets you know the items can be found off of level 35-45 humanoid creatures such as man, troll-kind, dwarves, and orcs.

Quest Level: 35-50 (The higher level ones are in the Dunedain outpost in Annuminas called Echad Garthadir.)

If weapon-smithing is your trade; speak with Cannasgam for your crafting quest.
Once you reach the Dunedain outpost in Annuminas called Echad Garthadir there are several ways to gain faction. They are as follows
- Speak with Eirieniel: You will learn that the Rangers have been trying to retake a watchtower, but keep getting repelled by a one of Amarthiel Black Numenorian named Agarochir. She wants you to defeat him and in return you will gain standing with the Wardens of Annuminas, 10 armour fragments for barter, and a Pure Celebrant Ointment.
