Outland, once known as Draenor, is a zone known by many World of Warcraft fans. Throughout the various RTS games Outland has served as a launching point for the Orc invasions along with several other major plots. It’s a broken world, parts of land float majestically through the sky while the various races hang on to their once beautiful land.
Now the time has come for the people of Azeroth to head to this world, through the Dark Portals, and face many of their enemies. The Burning Legion maintains a strong prescense in Outland along with various tribes of Orcs, Draenei, mysterious creatures, and the remainder of Illidans forces.
Flying Mounts
Flying mounts are the new form of transportation that comes with The Burning Crusade. They are native only to Outland (meaning they will not work in Azeroth) and they will allow players to travel the skies (and even the void) to various areas and instances that have no path connected to the ground.
We don’t know everything about flying mounts, but what we do know sounds like a ton of fun! Flying mounts have two modes: flying and running. They can travel the ground starting at epic mount speed. With enough forward momentum (or by jumping off a cliff) the mount will spread its wings and take to the air. From there you will control your mount like you control your character while swimming.
You can return to the ground by simply swooping come like you’re landing an airplane. There is also the option to dismount, although that would be unwise too high up in the air. You will be able to reach any location within Outland while flying around on your flying mount.
It will most then likely be quiet difficult to obtain a flying mount. You’ll need to be level seventy and assumedly go on a lengthy quest to obtain one. The flying mounts will not be super rare though, as they are needed for a lot of the level seventy content. Think of it like a key to one of the current instances.
Rare flying mounts will also be available. You can assume that they will be like the ZG special mounts, dropping probably once on a server each month. One confirmed rare mount is the Nether Drake. Nether Drakes are an extremely cool version of the flying mount, having their own special glow to them.
