Weekly Lord of The Rings Troll
Report 4/11/08

By Darkgolem

This weeks troll report covers seems to have found both extremes of
commonality.  We have an unusual thread speaking about the new
classes being chauvinistic, and another asking for underwater
adventuring.  On the other hand, we have some very common threads,
speaking about the "casual gamer" and a complaint about people who wish
to solo.  It's nice there are some things a gamer can depend upon
in a forum.

New
Classes Male Only=Chauvinist LotRO

"Is it common for new classes to be specific to one race in
MMOs? Will
the new classes be dwarf-only?? A lot of people are speculating that
the Warden and Rune-Keeper will be. That would make a lot of sense,
given the dwarven theme of the expansion. Unfortunately in LotRO this
would mean they are also *male* only! This would not be acceptable!

Women already play a subservient role..."

Is
this game biased against casual gamers?

"Casual gamers will find that they can only go up to level
50 and
nothing more.

I am in a different time zone (GMT+8) and unable to enter into anything
more advanced like Carn Dum, Urugarth, etc. Because of the different
time, I am unable to find a group to enter these places. And whenever I
do find a group, I find that I suddenly gained all the locks of the
other players, and unable to achieve the necessary goals (like fighting
Helchgam, or whatever the tentacle monster is).

By "casual gamers", I also refer to playing time of up to 2 hours. I
have never been..."

Rune
Masters & Wardens - Group Roles Analysis

"Like many people on these forums (in many threads), I am
having fun
doing some speculation about the two newly announced classes. However,
my approach is going to be a little different. Rather than try to break
down the names for some clue or insight, I want to approach it through
the lens of "group roles." Remember, it has always been a design goal
of Turbine that for all of the roles/functions in a fellowship hunt,
there..."

Any
plans for the Sky or Underwater Exploration?

"It would really be more interesting to explore
Middle-Earth if we
could explore sea life and the sky...."

Why
Solo an MMO?

"Let's look at this objectively....MMO: Massively
Multiplayer Online.

Massively seems pretty self-explanitory...Massive, huge, big, a lot
etc,etc...be it world size, things to do, players...whatever, there's a
lot of it.

Online: need I really define this?

Multiplayer: Lotta gray area here. Does it mean multiplayer as in
you're supposed to group to play? Or possibly you must group up to
accomplish certain goals? Or you must group up to complete certain
missions? Or maybe it means there are a lot folks online at the same
time attempting the same things? Or perhaps its the social aspect?

Or just maybe its all of the above?!??

Think about this if you will...You log in, no-one and mean NO-ONE...."
