10: The City of Kings Walk-through

Book 10: The City of Kings is an epic quest involving recovering a
palantir from the Regent of Angmar, Armarthiel, before she can use it
to find her powerful ring Narchuil.  If she is able to find her
ring, then she will be much more powerful.  Unfortunately, a
disagreement exists between the main advocate of a quick recovery of
the palantir (Laerdan the elf lord) and the leader of the Dunedain in
Tinnundir, Calenglad. Calenglad believes that the city of Annuminas
should be retaken before plans be laid for getting the palantir. 
Laerden believes recovering the palantir should be the first and utmost
priority.



The majority of this quest is in Evendim, shuttling around Tinnundir
and Annuminas.  You can do this whole quest chain with a group of
4 or so members, though you might want more for some of the
quests.  It is not hard to get more for those quests, as they are
"mark" quests.

His room is atop a flight of stairs on the right as you enter the keep.



Calenglad has told you that Laerdan the Elf has come to Tinnudir
bearing information that might help you combat Amarthiel's forces in
Annúminas. He said that Laerdan asked for you by name.



(Author's note: Laerdan is now
in Tinnundir, NOT in Angmar, so make
sure not to run all the way back there.  Enter the keep and take a
right at the end of the hall, up to the mustering room.)




2.  Bring Laerdan's Letter to Calenglad



Calenglad is at the Ranger-camp on the island of Tinnudir, in Evendim.



Laerdan has written a letter to Calenglad explaining the threat
Amarthiel poses. He has asked you to read the letter and deliver it to
Calenglad.

to take Annuminas, and tasks you with assisting his agents in the

Annúminas in order to keep her from focusing her attention upon
the palantír. He has sent you to speak with Rosselloth for
advice on what you can do to help.



(Rosselloth is at 17.8S,
70.2W.  It is best if you swim out to
about 70.6 west and then swim south to the docks.  You will find a
safe corridor to Rosselloth.)

2. Talk to Fainneleg



The Ranger Fainneleg is at Echad Garthadir, a small camp south-west of
Gwaelband, on a higher level of the city. If the Rangers hold
Gwaelband, the gate provides easy access to the higher level.
Otherwise, you will need to swim west past the Port of Annúminas
to Gaerannon and then climb through the city to reach Echad Garthadir.



Rosselloth has told you to speak with Fainneleg, the Ranger organizing
the defence of Annúminas.

19.1S, 71.0W.  If you avoid
Angmarim who are not fighting, you are fine.)

Defeat Bow Wielding Angmarim in Annuminas



Gwonil is on the docks at the Port of Annúminas, north of Echad
Garthadir. Torchirion is at Adannon, a small gate in the city wall west
of the docks that provides access to the western shore of Lake Nenuial.
Angmarim archers lie in wait throughout the city, often in hiding.



Fainneleg has asked you to hurry to the defence of Gwonil and of
Torchirion, for he fears that these Rangers cannot withstand another
assault on their positions. He also wishes you to defeat any
bow-wielding Angmarim you come across within the city.



(Author's Note: Torchirion is
in the west gate of Annuminas at 17.9S, 72.1W, and Gwonil
is at 71.2 W, 16.6S, both of whom do not involve fighting.  Near
the
west gate are non signature 50 archers.)

Glinghant, east of Echad Garthadir; and at Menelband, on the highest
level of the city.



Fainneleg has told you of three volatile locations in Annúminas.
He wants you to defeat the Angmarim and search their corpses for any
orders they may carry. If the Dúnedain hold any of these
locations, Fainneleg told you to search for the corpses of any Angmarim
that may have been killed in the fighting; they too may have carried
such orders.

loot the body at 18.0S, 70.2W. 
Menelband is at 19.4S, 69.9W, where signature Angmarim have orders for
you.  Clorhir is at 19.2S, 69.1 W.  These last two quest
involve some fighting two's and three's, so bring about 2 level 50

received some news that cause Fainneleg and Calenglad to believe that
their fortunes may be about to change.
1. Bring Sheaf of Papers to
Calenglad.



Calenglad is at the Ranger-camp on the island of Tinnudir.



Fainneleg heard some news from Calenglad that renewed his hope and has
sent you to the old Ranger to hear it. He gave you the orders written
in the Black Speech you collected from Gwaelband, Clorhir, and Tirband,
and said Calenglad might have need for them after all.



(Author's Notes: This leads to
an instance.  Simply lead the
enemies to the end of the walkway where your friend rangers wait, and
let them deal with the boss while you deal with the allies of the enemy
boss.)

Chapter 6: The Secret of the
Orders

the fortunes of the Dúnedain may be changing. If he can be made
to translate the orders you found, the tides of battle may turn in the
favour of the Free Peoples.

Mordrambor



Mordrambor is being held prisoner in the keep on the island of
Tinnudir, in Evendim. As you enter the keep, the door on your left
leads to stairs that climb up to the prison.



Calenglad has given you the orders you collected from the Angmarim in
Annúminas, so that you may show them to the Black
Númenórean prisoner. Mordrambor will know the Black
Speech and must be made to translate the orders for you.

tomb-robbers on the island of Rantost, in the north-east corner of the
lake, the Gauredain near the north-west corner of the lake, and the
Kergrim among the tombs of Men Erain, along the south-east corner of
the lake.



Mordrambor has told you of three emissaries sent by boat across Lake
Nenuial to buy the loyalties of some of the evils that plague Evendim.



(Author's Note: The first
emissary is at 16.2S, 66.6W.  This is the Kegrim emissary, and you
don't have to go so far into Annuminas that you worry about the
Angmarim in general.  Just head down the road and he is on the
right on an small island




The second
is at 6.9S, 70.5W.  This is the island of Ranost north of
Tinnundir, on the west side.

Laerdan has been given a room in the keep on the island of Tinnudir,
atop the stairs behind the door on your right as you enter the keep.



Mordrambor has told you that Amarthiel plans renewed assaults on the
city of Annúminas, but will only reveal the locations for these
new attacks if you deliver a message to Laerdan: 'Laerdan, thy time is
soon ended, thy mistakes soon accounted. Amarthiel awaits thee in Barad
Tironn, where she will sit in judgment over thee.'



2. Talk to Mordrambor



Mordrambor is being held prisoner in the prison atop the stairs on your
left as you enter the keep on the island of Tinnudir, in Evendim.



You have delivered Mordrambor's message to Laerdan as he requested, and
the Elf told you to beware the Black Númenórean's
treachery, for even imprisoned he poses great danger. If he upholds his
word, Mordrambor should now tell you the location of Amarthiel's latest
planned assault on Annúminas.

Amarthiel's next planned assault upon Annúminas.

Calenglad is at the Ranger-camp on the island of Tinnudir, in Evendim.



Mordrambor has told you to tell Calenglad of the planned locations for
Amarthiel's next assaults: the Port of Annúminas and the gate of
Adannon.



2. Talk to Gwonil and defend her positions.



Talk to Torchirion and defender his positions.

Garthadir. Torchirion is at Adannon, a small gate in the city wall west

on your left as you enter the keep on the island of Tinnudir, in
Evendim.



Laerdan has expressed his concern that Mordrambor is intentionally
keeping you occupied in Annúminas while Amarthiel searches for
Narchuil with the palantír.



3. Speak to Mordrambor



Mordrambor is in the prison atop the stairs through the door on your
left as you enter the keep on the island of Tinnudir, in Evendim.



Tadan has told you he will look forward to Laerdan's visit, because
guarding Mordrambor is not pleasant, especially as the prisoner has
begun reciting the various exploits of his brethren.

Guldurchir is in Menelband, a courtyard located on the uppermost level
of Annúminas.



Ranger Tadan has told you where to find Guldurchir; he hopes you will
be able to defeat this Black Númenórean before he is
permitted to use the relic he carries, Tann Morgul, against the
Dúnedain.



(Guldurchir is found at 19.9S,
70.1W, which is east out of the
Annuminas camp and up to the right, beyond many small groups of regular
and signature mobs.  Guldurchir has both a stun and aoe dot fire

2. Talk to Calenglad and travel to
Barad Tironn



Calenglad is at the Ranger-camp on the island of Tinnudir, in Evendim.



Calenglad is waiting to hear that your allies are prepared for the
assault on Barad Tironn and the reclamation of the palantír.
