LotRO Eregion Gwingris Quest
Guide
By Darkgolem
Known as Hollin in the speech of Men, Eregion by elves, the northern
portion of the woods leading up to this portion of the Misty Mountains
contain the ancient ruins known as Gwingris. Here the elves of
Rivendell are doing their best to prepare for the storm of Saruman and
Mordor's forces bound to come from the south, and protect the
Fellowship's secrecy by making sure their tracks are well
covered. Wood Trolls, Huorns, Crebain and Dunlendings are all
threats here, and it is up to you, heroes of the free peoples, to help
deal with these threats.

3019 January 14,
from the Journal of Gramdrim Ironhide, Warg-Foe
style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">
style="font-style: italic;">We have headed
south from Rivendell, watching for signs of friends who might have
passed this way. Not to join them, but to make certain they are
not followed. Further on this I will not speak, but myself and
Iorfariel are to reach Gwingris soon to see what aid we can give in
this endeavor.
style="font-style: italic;">January 16
- Iorfariel is her usual insufferable elvish self. I have
been regaled with all the stories of those of her kind which lived here
in the past, and the lands here. Trees are trees, I say, but
Hollin seems to have great worth for her. Reaching Gwingris by
heading south from the Bruinen Ford and heading
style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">
style="font-style: italic;">up to the
foothills of the mountains, it turns out that the Gwingris is
just what a dwarf might expect, elven ruins in a land full of
them! Still, it is nice to be with my friend, and better still to
be nearer the mountains if my forefathers.
style="font-style: italic;">
January
17 - Hollin is a place beset with troubles, and it is
good that two seasoned warriors such as me and my elven friend are
here. For one thing, we have found remains showing passage of our
friends who have passed this way, and are even now making sure no
careless trace shows our enemies details of that effort. Aside
from that, this land is starting to show signs of forces of the
enemy.
Crebain, foul cousins of the noble thrush, are noted in the woods, and
these seem to be spies from Saruman of the south. We are hunting
them now, and Iorfariel's bow is more effective than my axe at this.
style="font-style: italic;">

style="font-style: italic;">Much
less effected by our weapons are the wood trolls and, most
horribly, living trees of this place! My axe is useful here, but
the woods of Eregion near Gwingris are full of the foul things, and
they seem to turn aside normal weapons. Fire would be useful
here, but neither myself nor Iorfariel have many fire weapons to use.
style="font-style: italic;">
Worse of all are the evil men
here. Horrible worms are found
here, and there is an attempt afoot by Dunlendings, come up from the
south, to raise these things like pets for some foul purpose.
This dwarf will see to that plan ending, let me tell you that!
Until later, as Iorfariel would say, navaer!
