Player Housing Preview
By: Martuk
Player housing is one of the most anticipated features being implemented in the Book 11 Update. Today I was lucky enough to get a preview of some of the many player housing models that will be available in Middle-earth when Book 11 goes live. The Roheryn server hosted an open preview for housing and several GMs were on hand to mingle with the population and bestow them with various housing item gifts.
Buying Your House
The first thing you will need to do is buy your home. This can be done on the test server in one of two ways and may change before it goes live. The first option is to speak with a housing merchant that is stationed just outside of the entrance to the housing instance. The second way is to click on the for sale sign that is posted on the front lawn of any available house. Once you have purchased your hoe, you can assign a wide variety of permission settings.
Neighborhoods
When I first read about neighborhoods, I immediately assumed they would be maybe a street lined with a few houses. I was very wrong. The neighborhoods are interconnected by streets and are purely massive in size. These areas are so large that you can easily become lost.
Each neighborhood has distinct areas and that can it seems influence the price of a home depending on its location within the neighborhood. In Falathlorn Homestead there are homes near water that look beautiful and are a bit more costly than a home located in a less glorious section.
Falathlorn Homestead
My first stop on this journey to my new home was the Falathlorn Homestead. This area is home to a vast neighborhood of Elvish housing. The Elves have grand and epic looking homes. Their majestic presence can be felt by simply strolling through these magnificent neighborhoods.
When I entered the Falathlorn Homestead I purchased a Tier 2 home or as it was called there a Deluxe. The basic homes have one room and are pretty cheap, but they dont leave a lot of space for customization. The Deluxe home has two rooms. The first room is downstairs and the other room is on the second floor connected by a long winding stairway. This home offers more room for customization and the yard is a bit bigger to.
Kinship Homes
With a few of my Kinship members from Landroval we formed our Kinship on Roheryn and purchased an Elvish Kinship home and that was a huge home of many rooms and grand design. The Kinship homes have several rooms, including a grand meeting hall, a large entrance hall, a second floor, and a very large yard. Kinship homes allow the larget option of customization and has the most room.
Customization
The customization options for player housing are very detailed. You can change the color of your walls by purchasing paint, add a variety of items and even buy background ambient music. The option to customize the music you hear when you enter your home is a great feature. There were two ways to obtain furniture for your home. There were vendors near the center of the neighborhoods who sold a variety of items and there were several crafting recipes for various items.
Players can decorate their yards with a variety of items to give it a unique look. Some of the items I noticed in various yards were giant pumpkins, Harvest festival statues, statues of various Middle-earth heroes, a Mushroom growing tent (I know what youre thinking), wells, and even tree stumps.
One of the drawbacks of the customization features is that you cant move items around where you want them. There are certain slots inside and outside the house that can hold certain items and those slots are fixed in location.
Pricing
While this price is by no means accurate and in all likelihood subject to change, I am only including it to give you a roundabout idea of what we might can expect housing to cost. These prices are from the Roheryn preview and are all subject to change. That is not to say this is in any way going to be even close to what the developers finally settle on.
Basic Homes: The basic homes are the smallest form of player housing usually consisting of one room dwellings.
Cost: 1-2 gold
Deluxe homes: These homes consist of a two room two story house. They have more space and more customization slots.
Cost: 7-9 gold
Kinship homes: These are the biggest, grandest, and most expensive of the player housing options. These homes generally have several rooms, a large entrance hall, and one large gathering hall.
Cost: 14-19 gold
