The Playstation 4 still remains out of stock at large in America. I’ve gone to every retailer in my area and I’ve camped out online, and there have been very few small windows when you could buy a PS4 online. On the flipside, the Microsoft Xbox One is available everywhere. Here in Georgia at Perimeter Mall there is a freaking Xbox One kiosk where you can buy as many as you want. Every department store has like five.

Why is one in stock and the other not? Simple logic - one is a 100 bucks cheaper and plays all the games the other one does sans the Kinect exclusives and let’s be honest here, no one wants to stand up and play a game.

I present: exhibit A, a picture taken from my local department store.

Walmart PS4

As you can see, there isn’t a PS4 there. Why isn’t there a PS4 there you ask? Because it is $100 cheaper. That’s why. We’ve gotten to a point where no console provides any benefit over the other, minus very few exclusives like Halo and Gears of War. Without these exclusives, there is no point in picking between the two. You go with the cheapest.

To that extent, I’m surprised we’re this far into the year and PS4s still are out of stock everywhere. Sony knows this and has stated that they will be getting in more stock next month. So it’s still a long wait for those of us looking to save that extra hundred bucks, which is so worth it.

Moving on to a fresher subject, it seems that Lineage II was able to upset people somehow by introducing a cash shop incentive program. Cash shop incentive programs are terrible ideas, unless it’s All Points Bulletin in which case you can simply get a percentage off for subscribing, which is cool and a sweet bonus. On the other hand, L2 is really old at this point so at least people are talking about it.

Anyway, you get Hero Coins that are earned when you buy an item from the cash shop. However, they aren’t account wide, you need a ton of them, and they expire at the end of the calendar year. Sounds like the Starbucks reward plan to me!

Cash shop reward plans are terrible ideas. If you’re an MMO developer, don’t produce one, it’s better to just go make an MMO credit card and give people 5% back whenever they make a purchase or something equally difficult to setup just so that it’s not an attractive option only in the event of completely needing to drop a few grand into your game.

In other news, Camelot Unchained’s alpha kicks off here soon. I hope everyone is super excited for that. We’ll get to see if CU can take on EQN for the title of best Minecraft/MMO mixup.

In the final moment of discussion of today’s Respawn, the WoW movie has started shooting. I’m sure everyone is super duper excited about that one. Orcs and Elves, fighting alongside each other on T.V.
