With loot, rare mobs, and other compelling content, Timeless Isle was the shining jewel in the crown of the World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria expansion. Players flocked to this tiny paradise in droves to take part in the content. Fast forward to today and Tanaan Jungle is the next new frontier in Warlords of Draenor. Compared frequently to Timeless Isle, Tanaan Jungle has the potential to save what is left of this expansion.
However, grumbling is already being heard about this new jungle zone. While there are many similarities between the two zones, it seems that the differences may be too much. Can Tanaan Jungle ultimately live up to the legacy of Timeless Isle? Take a look at the good and bad of this zone and decide for yourself.
Tanaan Jungle – The Good
Tanaan Jungle really has a lot going for it. Much like the Timeless Isle, Tanaan Jungle is an aesthetically pleasing zone that makes it a pleasure to wander around in and you will likely be doing plenty of that. Don't worry though, it will likely be worth your while. Tanaan is filled with different exotic places to explore and hidden treasures sprinkled throughout, making each trip around this zone feel exciting and brand new.
Also appealing to players are the plethora of rares to be found here, a feature that was exceptionally popular on Timeless Isle. Seeking out these rares is not only challenging, but also feels very rewarding. Even better, the killable mobs here come in a variety of difficulties. This means that players can seek out groups (both big and small) for more difficult kills or choose easier mobs and remain solo.
Perhaps the biggest draw that Tanaan Jungle provides is the chance to get outside of your Garrison. Hallelujah! One of the biggest complaints of this expansion is the lack of socialization and the feeling of isolation. With players flocking to this new zone in droves, that feeling is quickly eliminated.
In Tanaan Jungle you are faced head on with other players. No longer does the experience feel like one you are taking on your own. Even better, players are compelled to join up in groups and interact with others and are rewarded for it in the process. Of course, Tanaan isn't all fun-filled sunshine and rainbows.
Tanaan Jungle – The Bad
While Tanaan Jungle has a lot of good going for it, it also seems to have its fair share of not so good features as well. For starters, while this new zone does foster an area that draws players together, there doesn't seem to be an extra reward for doing so. Not to mention that according to some reports, many of the mobs that are supposed to be done in a group are easily soloable, destroying the need for any sort of player cooperation.
Even if player interaction was pristine, it seems that many players are finding the new zone rather dull. With a distinct lack of quests and far less randomness than Timeless Isle offered, many players log on to kill the mobs they need and then log back off again.
To make matters worse, the main purpose of Tanaan Jungle is to grind. You need to grind out reputation, grind out daily quests, grind to collect Felblight, and more. Nothing kills fun like mindless grinding and this zone is absolutely filled with it. To add insult to injury, none of the tokens you earn here are Bind on Account, meaning that you need to grind even more, on each and every alt you own if you want to gear them up too.
Tanaan Jungle vs. Timeless Isle
Looking at both the good and the bad of Tanaan Jungle, it seems like it is falling short of the Timeless Isle. Which is disappointing, however, it isn't a total loss. This new zone is packed full of things worth checking out, even if you only do it once. Not to mention, it does break you out of the monotony of your Garrison, which most of us will count as a blessing.
With that being said, it seems this new Warlords of Draenor zone is somehow lacking the magic that players found so appealing on the Timeless Isle. With the current state of things, it seems likely that the majority of the player base will become disinterested in the zone in just a few short months. However, it isn't to late to hope. We are still early in the 6.2 game and the zone could be updated, added to, and refined into a more perfect form. With just a little tweaking, Tanaan could easily become a very special place that we all want to be.
