Water Totems

Water totems represent the restoration portion of the shaman’s skill set. Water totems can restore mana and health, cleanse poison and disease, or increase the fire resistance of your party as long as they remain within the range of the totem’s effects. You can first begin using water totems at level 20 when the Healing Stream Totem becomes available.

Totem Tactics/List

The following is a list of totems with helpful tips and tactics to get the most out of them. It's really good reading for any Shaman!

Water Totems

Healing Stream Totem: The Healing Stream Totem will restore the health of you and your party members within its range every two seconds. This totem is excellent when soloing earlier on but as you gain levels it becomes very inefficient mana cost wise unless you have a lot of bonus healing (it’ll use 6% of your bonus healing each tick). Group wise it’s pretty good for the mana cost and even better when you have the extra bonus healing. Multiple shamans can place the Healing Stream Totems down and the healing can be quite powerful. Neat trick: Use a trinket with plus healing before placing it down. It’ll use the bonus healing from the trinket effect.

  • Duration: 2 minutes
  • Cooldown: global
  • Radius: 20 yards
  • Obtained: level 20
  • Ranks: 6 at levels 20,30,40,50,60,69

Mana Spring Totem: Obtained at level twenty six the Mana Spring Totem applies a buff to all party members within its range that restores a certain amount of mana every two seconds. Very useful when soloing as the mana given back to you can be used to cast heals on yourself and is very useful in a group full of casters.

  • Duration: 2 minutes
  • Cooldown: global
  • Range: 20 yards
  • Obtained: level 26
  • Ranks: 5 26 (restores 6 mana), 36 (restores 9 mana), 46 (restores 13 mana), 56 (restores 17 mana), 65 (restores 20 mana).

Poison Cleansing Totem: A very simple totem, it will remove one poison effect from each party member every 5 seconds. This isn’t so much of a useful soloing totem (unless you’re fighting something that poisons you a lot) as a raiding totem. In a raid or instance during certain areas you can place these totems down to remove a lot of the work from your group/raid.

  • Duration: 90 seconds
  • Cooldown: global
  • Radius: 20 yards
  • Obtained: 22
  • Ranks: 1 at level 22

Disease Cleansing Totem: The same as the Poison Cleansing Totem. More of an instance/raiding type totem. Useful when soloing when you’re fighting something that diseases you a lot (like the undead).

  • Duration: 90 seconds
  • Cooldown: global
  • Radius: 20 yards
  • Obtained: 38
  • Ranks: 1 at level 38

Mana Tide Totem: The Mana Tide Totem is a totem that is obtained from the Mana Tide Totem talent. It lasts 12 seconds but restores 6% of your parties mana every 3 seconds. This means that you’ll get a total of 24% of your parties mana back. This is great when soloing or in a party. When in a party and your party’s mana is about to run this is an excellent totem to place down.

  • Duration: 12 seconds
  • Cooldown: 5 minutes
  • Radius: 20 yards
  • Obtained: Talent
  • Ranks: 1 (Talent Point Required)

Fire Resistance Totem: A totem that is useful when soloing when you’re fighting things that spew a lot of fire (but honestly isn’t really worth the mana cost). It’s really good in battles that require a lot of fire resistance. However, it has to be a fight that absolutely requires the mana resistance. The other water totems are usually better choices unless you just need the resistance.

  • Duration: 1 minute
  • Cooldown: global
  • Radius: 20 yards
  • Obtained: level 28
  • Ranks: 4 Levels 28 (30 fire resist), 42 (45 fire resist), 58 (60 fire resis), 68 (70 fire resist).
