Weekly Lord of the Rings Troll
Report 3/7/08

This week the troll report is particularly well name, since, frankly,
the most active threads I found were somewhat angry, especially about
crafting.  Regarding the last of the highlighted threads (The
wierdest people you have met in Middle Earth), frankly, I can
relate.  I remember in another MMOG (specifically style="font-style: italic;">City of Heroes, years ago), I had a
character named, unsurprisingly, Darkgolem.  Sure enough, someone
came up to me and demanded I delete.. since I had taken their
name.  Yeah, it takes all types.

Crit Percentages Broken?

Hello all,

Is it just me, or have others noticed that the percentage
in the
crafting screen for a critical success is far from the actual results
you get when crafting the item?

Examples:

I was crafting last night, converting ore into ingots. As most of you
know, each item, you have a 5% chance of a critical success and get 3
ingots instead of 1. Well, 80 ingot were produced, none of which were a
critical success. By my calculations, the chance of this happening is
about 1.65%. I thought at first, alright, this could just be bad luck.
Then, I went on to crafting hide, same thing. 20 hides later, no
critical success. Lastly, just for fun, I tried out tailoring. I used
crit items, good tools, and scrolls (got up to ~60% crit chance), and
still failed to crit 5 times.

So, I turned to my kin and asked what was up. Turns out its not just
me. One kin member reported having an 80% chance to crit and failing 10
times in a row. Doing the math, the chance of this happening would be...

'Endgame' Myth

That's right, myth...pure and simple mythology and nothing
more.

In LoTRO the endgame is considered the Raids and PvMP. Such a joke and
nobody is laughing. Here you have 2 raids one of 12 and one of 24. And
what are they? Nothing more than an opportunity to encourage a pack
mentality in a game billed as casual PvE.

The Raids are a joke. Yet some will say they are epic, they are the
endgame, they are by far the hardest thing that one can do in this
game. How so? Let me see if I can address and counter the arguements up
front.

#1...You have to coordinate the efforts...

href="http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?t=124800">Is there
ANY Turbine dev that has anything to say about crafting?

Such as, "Yes we know it sucks and we plan on fixing it
soon." I'm
getting tired of these little fixes to crafting like trying to put it
together with gum and paper clips. Since beta the crafting system has
been horrible and I am not sure why they haven't revamped the thing yet
because it would make the game more appealing. There's a lot of
crafters out there including myself but I can't stand crafting in LOTRO.

This is my plea and petition for a developer response on the current

href="http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?t=124615">Economy
in the shaft since b12

Thanks to the new moors drops, now demand for mirrored
armor &
weapons are at an all-time low. In fact, it makes no sense to try and
crit to sell. You will end up at a loss unless you plan on farming for
shards 24/7. Same can be said about other various items such as the
high end cloak, mace, bow, and so on. So first the Rift, now fror and
quest rewards. How are crafters to compete?

Devs, I would like a response to this. Thank you.

href="http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?t=54472">Who are
the weirdest people you've encountered in Middle Earth?

Mine has to do with this one silly dwarf...

I was in a group with some people and we went off to kill some elite
spiders in Lone-Lands. Well, there was this one spider that was trained
onto us by some idiot. (He tagged a spider, we somehow got it, then he
went to kill another mob). When we had been victorious, he came back to
us (after killing his own mob) and proceeded to viciously SCREAM at us
for stealing his kill.

He typed in all caps. And he went on and on and on and on and on and on
about why he was so upset with us, and that he was "TIRED OF PEOPL
STELING MY FKIGN KILLS!". Then he logged off.

...So who are some of the strange folk you've encountered in Middle
Earth?
