I didn't have a chance to login to Lord of the Rings Online yesterday. How was launch day? Turbine, how did it go? Quotes, we want quotes!

Fargo over at Fileplanet has written an article titled, "An Open Letter to Apple from a Lifelong Gamer" that touches on many of the points that I have been making about the gaming hardware divide.

Gaming is the only reason that I own a PC. An apple a day keeps the gamer away is an unfortunate truth. Fortunately, the tide is beginning to come in for Mac gamers. In reality, the tide has always been ebbing and flowing on the Mac. There are a number of top notch titles available, but for the best gaming experience a PC always had the upper hand.

The good folks at Apple have been making shiny things for as long as shiny things have been popular. There are some people who believe that Apple made shiny things popular in the first place. I can't argue with that line of thought. Most of you own an iPod and an increasing number of you own a Mac laptop. The switch to Intel chips opened the door to the one-machine-fits-all computing renaissance. Bootcamp, an Apple utility that allows Macs to boot to Windows XP (and now Vista) opened up a brave new gaming world. Gamers could now own a Mac that could play their PC games.

When it comes to the MMOG genre there isn't a single game that I have tried, and I have tried far too many, that didn't play as well on my Mac as on my PC. In the case of World of Warcraft, a title made to run natively on a Mac, I prefer to play the Mac version over the PC version. It crashes less and gives me the backend stability and features of OSX.

Make no mistake, prior to the Intel revolution in Macintoshland I was anti-Mac. When I received an "on-loan" laptop to use for podcasts at E3 last year I began my slide down the slope to Apple nirvana. I ended up buying the laptop and once my wife used it she ended up with an iMac. My son, an avid gamer always plays via Bootcamp on one of the Macs if they aren't in use and will only grudgingly fire up one of the PCs if there is no other choice.

Apple, read Fargo's letter. You are poised to give gamers a stable, easy-to-use, friendly and fun gaming platform if only you would turn your attention our way for a moment. Forget phones. Forget television. Games are the future. You need only entice a few MMOG developers to embrace your OS and my little corner of the world, the massively multiplayer online game corner would be a better place.
