I missed crediting Matt with one of the Real World News stories yesterday. My most humble apologies go out to Matt, who has always been a stalwart contributor to this column.
Nevrax the team behind The Saga of Ryzom have announced that they are going into receivership. At this time there is no word on whether the game will find a new publisher.
Though I tried Ryzom, as I do with all MMOGs that I can get my hands on, I didn't stick with it. That said, it was always a game and a development company that appeared to be going in a direction that would make it successful. It appears that time and money ran out before that dream could come to fruition.
Many will claim that World of Warcraft is responsible for the death of these smaller games, but I disagree. WoW has brought so much media attention to the genre that smaller developers should be wading in prospective customers.
Is WoW a virtual undertaker for smaller MMOGs or is it helping the industry?
