1. Daily Column

I felt it was time to take three-steps back from my World of Warcraft play and reintroduce myself to a game I had previously played, but hadn't become enamoured with. My choice for September 2007 is EVE Online. Not only has their subscriber base been expanding faster than Whoopi Goldberg's ability to suck, but they have been teasing me with upcoming content change tidbits.

Yesterday I took the plunge. I tried to take the plunge two days ago, but you can't just delete a character in EVE. You have to wait 10 hours! Fricka-frack! I want to start new and have the new player experience. I waited it out and yesterday fired up a new mining superpower in the game. Bzzzzzt, thwack! Warp Engaged. Clickity, click, click.....cha-ching! I heard those sounds until they became like a soothing lullaby, mostly because the third mission I was given during the tutorial wasn't one I could complete with my starter ship. You see, my starter ship had a teeny-tiny, itsy-bitsy cargo hold and the mission required that I mine more than I could hold, literally.

So, Bzzzzzt, thwack! Warp Engaged. Clickity, click, click.....cha-ching and hours later I had a new ship with a bigger cargo hold. I'll show that Agent what I can do! I warped out to the asteroid belt to mine the ore that they had requested and....there wasn't any. There was oodles of ore of other varieties, but the type that I needed had apparently been hunted into extinction. I now have 24 hours to find it or that damned agent is going to give me a black mark on my record. Jack Bauer where are you!

The following took place between the hours of 11:00 and 12:00. Ping! Ping!

Bzzzzzt, thwack! Warp Engaged. Clickity, click, click.....cha-ching. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Next up, getting enough money to play the market. Maybe that is more my style.
