Daily Column
10 new MMOG articles today! 173 so far in November!
If you haven't done so already, pop over and nab your Bounty Bay Online Free Trial. I would appreciate hearing what you thought of the game and so would the good folks who created it.
The comedy gods smiled upon me yesterday. I received a piece of spam titled, Video Game Cruise with Cloris Leachman. Who was the bright light that thought Cloris Leachman would be a celebrity that would attract gamers? Turns out this is a real cruise with other huge gaming stars like Tommy Tallarico (He was the annoying one on the show Reviews on the Run and is now the Video Games Live co-founder) and Barbara St. Hilaire. I'll go out on a limb and guess that more of you have heard of Cloris Leachman than Tommy or Barbara. What a wild and wacky trip it would be.
Yesterday's column regarding heavy death penalties hit a nerve with readers. Here are some of the comments from my mailbox. Names have been changed to protect those that didn't give me permission to use their name.
"I've tried PVP and for most part I've found that there are enough want to be soldiers of fortune lurking around the newbie area's that I've just about given it up. My best experience was in EQ 2 because I was able to level up enough within the safety of Qeynos to be able to do some crafting and venture out from the city gates to learn how to play against the Wolf Packs waiting for the new to venture out. I took a look at Vanguard but got ganked so many ways that I gave up at level 10 Ranger. I now just pretty much don't even let the idea of PVP enter my head. Now if I want PVP I just get on the Southern California freeways around 5:00 PM."

"Short and sweet....you are RIGHT ON !!! I left UO for the same reasons. Pk'rs had a house right next to mine. They ended up getting banned for raping a female player in the game. R. Garriott felt the players should deal with the pk. I did. I stopped sending Garriott my money."
Medeor started a thread in the Loading... forums that is now two-pages long. Chime in with your thoughts. Tomorrow I will take a look at how the death penalty in EverQuest evolved over the years. How many of you remember the days when you could give another player consent to loot your corpse and then trade all of the items back to you? Rogues miss those days I'm sure.
