Daily Column

Loading... it's like your morning MMOG coffee.

I tried Archlord, but I knew going in that it wasn't going to be my cup of tea. Fortunately for Codemasters many of you tend to disagree with me on most everything. Attendees of Connect 2008 will receive an exclusive RF Online armour set, Jumpgate: Evolution beta keys and other goodies. You'll even get to chat with some developers including the team from NetDevil. If you are close enough to attend it sounds like a good time. This event will feature Archlord, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Lord of the Rings Online, RF Online and Jumpgate: Evolution.

If you have been to a SOE Fan Faire or BlizzCON it will be something along that ilk. If not, think of it as a gathering of like-minded individuals who happen to share your passion for MMOGs.

Sir Bruce has updated his MMOG active subscriptions charts at MMOGChart. The WoW graph is as impressive to see as the Dark Age of Camelot graph is disheartening. DAoC was an innovative title that changed the way that many players and developers viewed PvP combat. It appears that it is winding down with numbers now lower than that of Ultima Online.

Also interesting is the chart that shows total MMOG active subscriptions. It shows that despite what the media would like you to believe that the MMOG genre is adding more new members now than ever before. That's good news for everyone reading this column.

What interesting nuggets did you mine from the charts? The Loading... forums await your wisdom.

And now the news that you have all been waiting for....Hello Kitty World is now in closed beta. This game falls firmly into the "Boomjack doesn't get it" category. Apparently I'm not the target market for Hello Kitty. Are you?
