Thanks for taking some time out of your day to read this column. I truly appreciate it. If you happen to use Twitter, you can follow me @BoomjackTTH. I rarely use Facebook, but I do occasionally post gaming related tidbits on Google+ where you can find me under my real moniker John Hoskin.
Some fantastic stuff was posted yesterday (or the day before that, depending on when our uber staff puts this on our website)
First up, for the WoW Players, Byron posted a Best in Slot weapons list for those of you still getting into raiding. Anyone can get these weapons, not just the uber-goobs who have already put the final bosses from expansions not yet released on farm.
Maybe not fantastic, but still important is that beta testing for Star Wars: the Old Republic has been put on hold. This could be good or bad. How many of you are already in the beta?
Diablo III Friends and Family beta is live and has no NDA. That means that there are videos, streams and the like all over the Net for you to check out. Start here.
In non-MMOG news, Space Marine has hit retail. I’m a huge Warhammer 40K nut, as our own Phil Comeau can attest, as he now owns my old Space Wolves army. At one time I would guess I had $10,000+ worth of painted models. I have since sold off most of my collection. Moving to a small town meant that I had nobody to play against and the game just isn’t the same without a vibrant hobby community behind it. That said, it is still near and dear to my heart.
Much like MMOGs, the Warhammer 40K hobby is an enormous time investment. Building and painting a single model can take weeks, though the pros can of course deliver an incredible product in much less time. Learning and playing the game is only a small part of the investment in Warhammer, and though crushing some Eldar weenie with my marines is incredibly satisfying, so is the relaxation of physically building and painting the models. It may be the apex of the nerd culture; futuristic green army men so to speak.
I haven’t had time to buy Space Marine, much less play it, so I’m living vicariously through you. Send me your thoughts on the game, screenshots, etc. Did you or do you play Warhammer 40K? What army?
That’s it for today. Thanks again for reading and as always, may your dreams be big and your worries be small.
