1. Daily Column

Two big-news items for to appease your MMOG appetites today.

First up, a fantastic video of Mike Goslin, President of Disney VR Studios taking you on a tour of Pirates of the Caribbean Online. I must have an inner-ninja, because I always found it difficult to see any appeal in a pirated MMOG. Unfortunately, I missed out on E3 last year due to a death in the family and didn't get to see Pirates of the Caribbean (or Pirates of the Burning Sea) up close and personal.

"Join Mike Goslin, President of Disney VR Studios, and Joe Shochet, Creative Director / Lead Designer, for a video tour of the current in-development build of Pirates of the Caribbean Online. Tour melee and sea combat, check out the game's innovative gambling system, and even view the newest cutscenes featuring none other than Jack Sparrow and Captain Barbossa!"

After watching and rewatching the video I have to say that I'm impressed. I could probably get into a game like that.

Next up, an EverQuest 2 expansion was revealed at the SOE Gamer Day. I wax nostalgic about my days playing EverQuest and to some extent my time spent playing EverQuest 2. Our EQ2 guild was so tight that on a whim about 20 of them flew to Las Vegas to meet the TTH crew during one of our events. With each expansion I find myself jumping back in to try it again, only to see how far behind the curve I am. I like to explore the content in a game, but I find when I jump back into a title after being away for an extended period that I'm so far out of touch with regards to levels to the main body of players that I inevitably end up playing solo.

The inclusion of new races in an expansion alleviates this problem to some extent, but for whatever reason I have never been "reintroduced" to a game and stuck with it.

I downloaded 9 Dragons yesterday and spent an hour or so giving it a look. I haven't spent nearly long enough to give you a useful impression, but I do have to wonder why MMOG developers make movement "click-to-move". What's wrong with the option to use the W,A,S and D keys to move? You can download 9 Dragons for free and play for free. If you take the leap, please let me know what your thoughts are on the game.

While we are talking "free". Blizzard has a free download / free trial of The Burning Crusade available.

Has WoW lost its appeal? Have you gone back to EQ2? Trying Vanguard? What are you playing?
