I'm still unable to get EverQuest 2 patched. Thanks to those of you who mailed me and posted in the blog, even those of you who questioned my ability to problem solve, reason and bathe. Those of you in the latter three camps will be thrilled to know that I'll be making you all famous by posting your e-mail addresses in this list. Thanks again. I'll be playing Guild Wars as my "reintroduction" game this month if any of you anonymous e-mail pansies care to come and get me in some PvP.

If you visit any of the various MMOG message forums you will eventually (within 12 minutes) come across a thread that explains why the game being discussed is flawed and how the genius on the other end of thread would fix it. The game designers are incompetent, bumbling buffoons who know nothing. The forum trolls, without careers or hygiene are the true brains behind the game industry. Go ahead, find a forum and disprove my theory.

Despite this problem of having non-gamers at the reins of game design while the true geniuses of the industry sit at home filling their holes with cheezies and Mountain Dew, we somehow have great games being made. We couldn't possibly ask the doughy prodigies to leave their basements, so we're stuck with the likes of Richard Garriott, Paul Barnett, Jeff Hickman and Raph Koster. We persevere.

My question to you is this, "If you could hire any game designer / producer / person to build a design team around would it be?"

My choice from the multitude of great options? Jeff Hickman.
