First up, we want to pay you. We have a position as Age of Conan Community Manager starting soon (yes, that means our AoC premium community is also almost here. Merry Christmas!). If you are interested in joining the TenTonHammer.com team, love games (especially AoC), have a reasonable grasp on the written word and aren't afraid of being mentioned in Loading... then please send a letter of interest, MMORPG game history and guild affiliations to Jeff "Ethec" Woleslagle. Rodeo clown experience is a plus, but not required. DO NOT, send me your application unless it includes naughty pictures and then only if you are female. Bribes, flattery, remarks of adulation and sweet talk will be received at this address.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I have a small (and by small I mean enormous) collection of signed game boxes that have come to me over the years from appreciative and sometimes hateful developers. The SOE team has put their signed game boxes where their mouths are and donated copies to TenTonHammer.com to distribute to you in our SOE Holiday Giveaway . Enjoy and good luck!

Thanks to Medeor for sending me a link to the following. Dell and Blizzard have banded together to give you, well, nothing. Instead they have created the Godzilla of laptops. I expect to see this colossus stamping through a miniature world near you, crushing the buildings under it's non-slip feet and breathing fire from its exhaust vents. Dell XPS M1730 World of Warcraft Edition costs a measly $4500ish (how many desktop machines could you build for that?).

Here is what you get:

"The world's first notebook with the AGEIA PhysX physics processing unit, the M1730 offers the most powerful Dell notebook gaming experience ever.

  • The AGEIA PhysX Accelerator - a Dell notebook exclusive - accelerates the scale and quality of real-time physics on PhysX-enabled games, for a level of dynamic motion and interaction never before experienced in mobile gaming. With a PhysX card, things don't just look real; they act real and seem real.
  • Dual NVIDIA SLI graphics-capability with DirectX 10, so two graphics processing units can run in parallel for up to twice the performance of a single card.
  • 512 MB of dedicated video RAM can ensure fast graphics.
  • Two x16 graphics channels offer a spectacular 3D experience.
  • Live the game on a staggering 17-inch widescreen UltraSharp WUXGA display with high resolution (1920x1200) and full HD 1080p support.
  • Avoid getting ghanked thanks to a blazing 7 millisecond screen response time.
  • Track your stats with the world's first built-in notebook Logitech® GamePanelTM LCD, and plan for better raids with your built-in, dual digital array microphones.
  • Customized Warcraft packaging
  • Golden Ticket for a custom FigurePrint of your* in-game World of Warcraft character
  • World of Warcraft Beta Club Key Card inviting you to future unannounced beta tests
  • Collector’s Edition Account Upgrade Certificate granting you access to previously exclusive in-game pets
  • Exclusive desktop background artwork and screensavers
  • Warcraft-themed backpack, t-shirt and mouse pad
  • Additional software and XPS/Warcraft extras including a behind-the-scenes DVD, soundtrack CD, Warcraft novels, trading cards and more"

There is no arguing that this is probably the most powerful laptop that you could build. It's overkill. I don't think WoW even supports PhysX does it? So, why the AGEIA card?

Why SLI? WoW plays great on an old NVIDIA card. You certainly don't need two new ones.

If 17" of screen is "staggering" then how do I describe the 30" Apple Cinema Display that I play WoW on, astonishing?

Custom packaging? When did packaging become a selling point? I'll take mine in a brown paper bag for $2,000 Alex!

The FigurePrint is cool, but it's a $150 value. The Beta Club Key Card might be cool, but you don't get priority, you just get invited. The exclusive background and screensavers are worth exactly zero. I'm stumped.

I can't find a specification page that tells me what this brick weighs, but it has to require a forklift to transport. Why not just get a desktop? If you need a laptop that plays World of Warcraft at full bore with no hitches get a Macbook Pro and save yourself $2,000. Donate half of your savings to "12 reasons why $4500 is too much for a laptop" programs. Your thoughts, or rather $4500 for your thoughts? That's the current cool price right?
