Dalmarus:
While not attempting to put labels on anyone, would it be safe to say
you could be considered a hardcore raider in Vanguard?
Luper:
I don’t like using the word "hardcore" but yes... I suppose
you could label me in that category.
Dalmarus:
How about "steady raider" then?
I'm sure a number of players have the time to dedicate and would like
to be part of a guild that sees the hardest content in the game. I
think it's also safe to say that while they may want to do something
like that, there is an underlying fear/nervousness about the endeavor
as well.
Do you have any advice for a player to become part of such a guild? I
imagine there is a lot of worry about messing up, not knowing tactics,
etc.
Luper:
Indeed. When recruiting, I think we are looking for dedicated players
who know their class well. If you try out for a "hardcore" guild,
you'll want to be geared the best you can. First impressions are always
important.
Dalmarus:
Years ago, the hardest raids in the game were accomplished without the
use of any voice communication. Everything was handled by typing. Do
you think it's still possible to accomplish this, or do you think games
have progressed to a point where situations in combat simply change too
fast for typing to be truly effective?
Luper:
I believe that one could still raid by only typing. Although, I think
that it would not be as efficient, and easy as using a voice
communication device.
Dalmarus:
So players that feel
voice communication ruins the immersion of game
could still find a hardcore raid guild to join within Vanguard?
Luper:
I believe that they could.
Dalmarus:
So the masses don't threaten to kill me for not asking at least one
Blood Mage related question while chatting with the class lead, let me
ask this; which symbiote do you think is in the most need of some love
from the developers?
Luper:
I'd have to say plated. It's the only one I NEVER use. Lol
Dalmarus:
I know you've been working hard on behalf of the Blood Mage community
as its class lead. How have things been going on that front recently?
Luper:
In regards to the plated symbiotes, all the opinions from the Blood
Mage community and myself have been dismissed, so I am unsure of what
they have in mind, unfortunately.
Dalmarus:
Why do you feel they've been dismissed?
Luper:
I believe they've been dismissed because the developers feel that some
of those suggestions are already over used in other classes’
buffs. I think they are looking for something more unique.
But... they do seem to be listening. I guess what bothers me the most
is that they don't contact us about how things are going.
What are they doing? What's improving? What's broken now? What's fixed
now?
Dalmarus:
Hopefully, some time will be freed up soon for them in that regard.
Before we sign off, let's finish up with some general questions. What
was your first MMO?
Luper:
My first MMO... was probably final fantasy. I used to play a bunch of
free online games
Dalmarus:
Is Vanguard your first SOE title or did you play EQ, EQ2, SWG?
Luper:
I played a small amount of EQ and SWG. I think I played EQ2 once on my
boyfriend's brother's account, but it seemed like everything was
tunnels. It was weird.
Dalmarus:
How long have you been playing video games in general?
Luper:
I have been playing since I was really young! I used to play the old
Dos games. lol.
Dalmarus:
Ohhh... Zork for the win!

Luper:
Yeah I played Atari and old Nintendo games like Gauntlet, Xenophobe,
etc.
Dalmarus:
Alright. One last question for the masses - PC or Console gaming?
Luper:
PC ftw!
Although, I do play console games.
Dalmarus:
Good choice! Nothing wrong with console games as long as they know
their place in the gaming food chain.
