4.0 Where to Hunt

Aside from the wonderful advice here, you may also find hunting and leveling advice in our Tier Leveling Guides. We can tell you where to go for every level range!

Levels 1 - 10

As an assassin you will be starting out in either The Darklight Woods, Timorous Deep, or the Outpost of the Overlord. I suggest spending your time here getting to know your class and taking advantage of the many quests that will equip you properly before heading out into the mean world of Norrath!

Levels 10 - 19

The Commonlands is the hunting ground of choice. Solo and Group
mobs are abundant. Do yourself a favor and explore the zone. Taking a
ride on the Griffins is a good way to clear the fog from the map. Work through as many quests as you can for fast experience... the game really opens up as a assassin at level 20 (through your first great defensive pet comes at level 24).

Fallen Gate is a great place to go with a group you trust. The lower levels of the sewers are aggro heavy and dangerous, again, unless you're with a trustworthy late-teens group.

Levels 20-29

I would personally skip Nektulos Forest until you're grouped and in your later teens. Thunderous Steppes, however, is good for soloers and groups. If you want to get there, make a harrowing run through Nektulos Forest to the beach in the southeast (get a guide if you can, this zone is twisty). The bell on the docks there will take you to the Thundering Steppes. Groups can hunt anywhere from
the zone in to the far reaches of the zone. The mobs are plentiful and
many are not aggressive. The Undead and Scarecrows near the Antonica
zoneline frequently drop chests with excellent loot.

  • Grouped 16-24: The gnolls found in the craters near the Antonica
    zone-in in the Thundering Steppes.
  • Grouped 16-25: The centaurs found all over the zone. These are
    not initially aggressive which is nice. They are faction based so after
    a few kills their status will change to aggressive making travel much
    harder. [Thanks Kaleb of the Unrest
    Server
    !]
  • Solo 19-23: The beetles found off the path to the docks and the
    bridge
  • Solo 19-24: The hawks found off the path to the docks and the
    bridge.
  • Solo 19-23: The snakes found off the path to the docks and the
    bridge.
  • Solo 19-24: The antelopes found off the path to the docks and the
    bridge.
  • Group 24-28: Ruins of Varsoon (entrance in TS) yields great xp
    and loot, including a variety of tier 4 jewelry. [Thanks Baptizmas of the Blackburrow server!]
  • Solo 24-26: Skellies in front of the Varsoon entrance in
    Thundering Steppes, which are both solo mobs and plentiful. The
    "apprentices of varsoon" at the entrance are especially nice exp and
    loot. [Thanks Jayce of the Storms
    server!
    ]
  • Group 21-26: Giants in TS, these drop awesome loot (including
    armor and Hill Giant Idols, which sell for surprising amounts to other
    players) and are great experience. There are rumors of a "Goliath"
    quest that can net you 10-12% experience at lvl 22. [Thanks
    Requiiem of the Neriak server!
    ]

Level 30-39

  • Solo 28-31: The first mobs
    in Zek con level 30 solo (yellow). If fought well, these are nice, safe
    xp. Moreover there's a quest starting at Zek docks (entrance) asking
    to hunt 10 of those mobs for nice cash (31 silver) and a "find the
    different locations" tome quest that cons red at lvl 28. [Thanks Jayce of the Storms server!]
  • Solo 30-35: Ruins of Varsoon is great- rats and dogs at entrance
    are soloable. Group there or work your way in. [Thanks
    Kuldor of the Unrest Server
    ]
  • Solo 35+: Get Feerott access. Solo mobs on the beach where you
    zone-in are safe with good loot. [Thanks Kuldor of the Unrest Server]
  • Group 30-35: Nektulos Castle is great exp, offers great quests
    and quest updates, and LOTS of adepts seem to drop there for
    some reason. [Thanks Wootwooten of
    Lavastorm!
    ]
  • Group 32+: Runnyeye Citadel, while difficult to get to (mucho
    aggro in the way), is a great place to earn exp fast. With the right
    group you just might level in less than a few hours!
  • Solo / Group 34+: Rivervale offers solo opportunities near the
    gate and great quests and opportunities for groups farther in. That,
    and it's much easier to get to than RE.
  • Group 35+: Get Everfrost access. Experience here is great. [Thanks
    Kuldor of the Unrest Server
    ]

Level 40+

Groups in Cazic-Thule and Permafrost are the best way to go until the mid-40s, when you should try your hand in the expansion zone Sinking Sands.

Level 50-60

There's plenty to do in the Desert of Flames. Grab a group and check it out!
There are several instanced zones a good group can clear, and some favorite
hunting spots in DoF are Clefts of Rujark, and The Silent City.  There is
plenty of solo mobs scattered through out Sinking Sands and Pillar of Flames,
harpies being one of my faves for the loot and faction they give.

Level 61-70

There is still some high end content in DoF that can be utilized, such as
Poets Palace.  But at this level range you definitely want to head over to
the latest EQ2 expansion, Kingdom of Sky.  Lower end zones in the Tenebrous
Tangle give some excellent solo'ing opportunities, and groups will fare well
with the the Sanctum of the Scaleborn.  As you progress, you'll want to
head over to Bonemire.  There are so many interesting quests in KoS, the
content in this expansion will keep you busy for a little while.
