If you are a World of Warcraft player heading into Heroes of the Storm, it can feel a little intimidating. This is especially true if MOBA type games are not your typical jam. Let's face it, Heroes is almost nothing like WoW even though some of WoW's most prominent characters are featured. With that being said, don't let a sense of intimidation stand in your way of this great game.
Despite the differences in the two games, WoW players can easily feel right at home in Heroes of the Storm. The best way to ease into the game is to find a Hero that fits a similar role to the one you currently prefer in World of Warcraft. While it won't be 100% exact, it will still feel like home. Check out my picks for the Hero you should pick based on your preferred role in WoW below:
Tank
While you won't be doing quite the tanking you are accustomed to in World of Warcraft, Heroes of the Storm does offer up some characters that will make you feel right at home. Known as Warriors, these Heroes have many of the same attributes as standard WoW tanks. With high survivability and lower damage than other heroes, these guys are made to take some serious hits. The tank of choice:
Stitches
While there are many Warrior heroes to choose from, Stitches is the Hero that feels the most like a tank you would find in World of Warcraft. With very high survivabilty, tons of utility, you won't even notice that Stitches might not be putting out as much damage as other Heroes. Just wait till you use his Hook ability for the first time. Even better, for a new player to HotS, Stitches is extremely easy to play well. Not to mention he ranks high on the Heroes of the Storm Tier List[Quickmatch] list.
Melee DPS
In WoW, melee DPS are on the front lines. While they aren't made to take damage like tanks, they can take a bit more abuse than their ranged counterparts With that being said, a melee DPS's prime focus is to deal damage while in close quarters to the enemy. Hero pick:
Zeratul
Zeratul is the ideal choice for WoW players coming into Heroes of the Storm. Less complex than many other melee heroes, Zeratul is easy and quick to learn. Not to mention that this guy deals some serious DPS. While Zeratul may be considered to be squishier than many other melee heroes in the game, his damage dealing skills by far make up for it. With a rogue like stealth and the ability to Blink to the forefront of the action, melee damage dealers from WoW will feel like this Starcraft hero was made just for them.
Ranged DPS
Ranged DPS in World of Warcraft tend to have one job; stand in the back and pump out the DPS. Of course, many ranged DPS classes have other utility, but they are mostly there to do damage to whatever foe they are taking on. Pew, pew. Ranged DPS hero pick:
Valla
While many heroes will feel like a WoW ranged DPS class, Valla is really the best choice. Easy to play, Valla is easy to pick up for new players fresh from WoW. While she has little utility, Valla pushes out some serious DPS, without being a total glass cannon. This hero should feel like home for any ranged DPS fan.
Healer
If you love to heal in World of Warcraft, you will be pleased to find that Heroes of the Storm offers up many characters with healing abilities. Known as support Heroes, these characters do just that; support the rest of their team. While healing won't be exactly what you are used to, you will still be throwing out heals and otherwise backing up your team. Healer hero pick:
Li Li
Li Li can keep up a stream of heals with her Healing Brew ability, making her perfect for the healer transitioning into Heroes of the Storm. With high survivability and an excellent ultimate ability, Li Li is an easy to learn character that players can pick up quickly and do well with out of the box. While healing with Li Li will be vary different from any healing in World of Warcraft, players transitioning between the two games should still find playing Li Li comfortable to play.
That wraps up my picks for the best heroes for WoW players new to Heroes of the Storm. Which heroes would you suggest for players looking to replicate their roles in World of Warcraft? Share your thoughts with us in the comment section below!
