The Human race can start in either the clean and tidy streets of Qeynos or the filthy slums of Freeport. The quests involved are different depending on which you chose.

Shortly after I completed this guide, one of our writers, Kiara, pointed out to me there was a Human Mentor Assistant in Starcrest Commune. I had no idea humans could start in both places, but wanting our guide complete I set out to do the quests. I determined the best way to start, was to create a character that would start in Starcrest. I assumed this would be accomplished by selecting the correct class. I created a warlock, guardian, ranger, illusionist. Ok, it's not by fighter/priest/mage/scout. So I'll try some more. Paladin, Illusionist, Conjurer, Wizard. What? I even made them a female. What's going on? Warder, Dirge, Templar....OMG! Now I've killed Curt Shilling 8 times, which was fun (even though the illusionist couldn't do it at level 1) but how do you start in Starcrest?

I'm now annoyed, so I take a human to Starcrest to talk to this "mentor" named Burt. It goes something like this:

Random Named Radar: Hail Burt!

Burt: Sorry, I can't help right now. My stomach hurts.

Random Named Radar: Tell me you're faking

Burt: Ok, I may not be sick but I am lazy. I have no intention of mentoring you.

Random Named Radar: Where can I get help?

Burt: Helain Conyers in Nettle Hovel...

Random Named Radar: DIE! DIE!

Radar pulls out daggers and stabs Burt repeatedly over and over laughing manically!

Ok, maybe the last part didn't happen, but I have to ask SOE about this NPC. Why?!?! WHY?! Who would accidentally go to Starcrest? Surely there is an explanation! I'm on trial for killing Burt for crying out loud! You owe me the truth!

Freeport Human

Welcome to Freeport! Assuming you weren't pickpocketed when you landed on the docks from the Isle of Refuge, you'll make your way in Beggar's Court to Alucius Valus. He'll start you on your first quest "Finding the Stash." Locate some stolen items in the most northwest area of Beggar's Court. Head to a room approxiametly loc 78.12, 5.15, -2.68 and you'll find a clickable item which will complete your quest. Head back to Alucius.

Treachery is afoot! Apparently there are documents that contradict the glorious history of your Overlord (may he not strike me again)! Get your next quest, "Saving History" and find the thug who has these documents for the glory of the Overlord!. It turns out there is an extremely obnoxious "Shady Thug" at -36.30, -6.92, 85.50 that has the documents. Watch him taunt you for more than 30 seconds and you'll be ready to kill him which will complete your mission. Once again head back to Alucius.

Alucius asks you now to deliver a package to Durio. As you are giving Durio the information, he lets you in on a secret. Alucius is selling those documents he so valiantly had you rescue, and not even cutting you in?!!? So you need to do what any noble, truthful, honest, valiant person would do. You go rat him out to the Militia. See Captain Kaseo Volcatius at the North Freeport Gate (75, -7.08, 106.25). He'll of course send you back to Durio to execute a very subtle trap.

Speaking to Durio will begin the Tricking the Traitor quest. Durio will send you to speak with Alucius. Prepare your sword and bring forth fiery justice as...you convince him the Militia is supporting you and he should leave you alone. I am in Freeport right? Head back to Durio and your quest will be complete. He will now send you find Inquisitor Throson in the Sunken City.

Qeynos Human

Welcome to Qeynos! The streets are clean and people DO appear just a little too happy. So slap the guy in the Mickey Mouse costume on your way in, and lets get to work. Right as you get off the boat in Nettleville Hovel, head straight to Helain Conyers who will give you a little background on Humans. Thus begins the Books Bound to Bring Knowledge quest. She wants you to learn more by going to get books from Andret Surtees.

Head over to the Scribe shop in town (642.17, -20.42, 282.16) and speak with Andret Surtees who will give you some books. Take them back to Helain. She will give you a little more insight into your race and then tells you that you dropped some pages out of the book. What were you thinking? Go find them! Shoo! Wind Blown Brell Serilis requires you to collect 6 page spawns. I found them in various locations in the Hovel. Various locations I didn't go yet, so how did I drop the pages there....I smell conspiracy! Return to Helain when you are done. Not only is she grateful, but she gives you a 5 slot bag.

Next she'll begin you on the redundant Looking for Work is Hard Work quest. You need to find Amazu Kharliko. As you exit the dock tunnel, take a right and you can't miss him near the other merchants. No work! Bah! Head back to Andret Surtees to see if he has anything. He's got none either? Where is the unemployment office! Head to the armor shop in the southeast corner to find Bahati Linnxar. No work! Feeling of rejection is getting painful. Next we're going to Laurdine Shardalow in the bank in the west of the Hovel. *sob* Guess what? No work, but go see Johfrit Gythell because he's probably the only person you haven't asked for a job yet. He's back near the armory where you found Bahati.

Now begins crate and barrel. If you haven't subjected yourself to enough humiliation, apparently a crate has been dropped in the water and you're going diving for it. The crate and barrel are at the bottom, and keep in mind this isn't a "touch the object and get update quest" you'll need to harvest it, so save your breath. Head back to Johfrit and he'll ask you to deliver the crate to Amazu Kharliko and the barrel to Laudine Shardalow both of whom you've met.

He'll now send you to Peat Bog to find Lieutenant Dawson and help her.
