Sea of Thieves Tall Tales Guide. For anyone new to Sea of Thieves, Tall Tales are lengthy story Quests that are accessed via Tale Books. These books are given by NPCs who send you on an epic adventure, in order to uncover details about the game and its lore. In total, there are 9 Tall Tales, each with varying lengths. Completing all 9 sees players piece together the mythical Shroudbreaker Artefact and enter the Devil's Shroud to find the legendary Shores of Gold.

Tall Tales Mechanics

Firstly, Tale Tales are seperate to any other quest. Participating in a Tall Tale also requires you to grab a crew, and vote on Tale Books. These are found by specific NPC's who'll give you the quest. In the "More Info" page, you'll find details on each specific Tall Tale, while you'll also be able to hover over specific Tall Tales in the reputation menu.

When your vote is cast, and the NPC has given a short introduction, the Tall Tale will appear on your Voyage Table. While the game will balance the Tall Tale based on your crew size, we've found a full crew often makes them much more fun. Even so, if you're solo or there's just a couple of you, the game will adapt the enemies you face and the island sizes you explore. 

To progress a Tale - often before its conclusion - you'll encounter multiple quest items that you'll need to deliver. In addition, each Tall Tale often has multiple Journals (up to 10) that your Crew can locate, which further bolster the story. Finally, each Tall Tale has a selection of unlockable Commendations and Cosmetics, while completing them gives you 3,000 gold.

Tall Tales and How To Complete Them

The Shroudbreaker - Tale Book given by the Mysterious Stranger at any Tavern.

The Cursed Rogue - Tale Book given by Madame Olivia at the Order of Souls tent at Plunder Outpost. Requires completion of the previous Tall Tale to become unlocked.

The Legendary Storyteller - Tale Book given by Tasha at the Tavern of Ancient Spire Outpost. Requires completion of the previous Tall Tale to become unlocked.

Wild Rose - Tale Book given by Madame Olive at Sanctuary Outpost. Requires completion of The Legendary Storyteller to become unlocked.

The Art of the Trickster - Tale Book given by Salty on the northern shore of Plunder Valley. Requires completion of The Legendary Storyteller to become unlocked.

The Fate of the Morningstar - Tale Book given by The Ferryman at the Ferry of the Damned. Requires completion of Stars of a Thief, Wild Rose and The Art of the Trickster to become unlocked.

Revenge of the Morningstar - Tale Book given by Sandra at the Shipwright Shop of Dagger Tooth Outpost. Requires completion of the previous Tall Tale to become unlocked.

Shores of Gold (Quest) - Tale Book given by Grace Morrow outside the Tavern at Morrow's Peak Outpost. Requires completion of the previous Tall Tale to become unlocked.
