Skygeirr Missions

Skygeirr is a Hybrid reasearch lab where you'll go to take care of some unfinished business involving the Hybrids. You'll unlock Infestors and Ultralisks. This guide should cover all of the Skygeirr Normal Achievements.

Infested Guide

Bonus Objective Reward: +3 Kerrigan levels

New Unit: Infestor

The Infestor is a neat unit that lets you take control of enemy units via parasites and, as an added bonus, it can both attack and regenerate mana.

WALKTHROUGH

Understand what Burrow does with Infestors and this mission should be a lot easier. Your first objective is to use Fungal Growth on a group of Marines. Go and use the ability on them, then Burrow and watch them perish. Burrow makes your unit invisible unless there is a sentry around, so be sure to use it heavily. The first part has three things you need to infect with a Virophage, move your Infestors to each part of the map. In addition, use Parasitic Domination when the game informs you to.

In the next phase, you’ll be given a base and a new objective: Destroy the Lab Entrance. Like usual, begin by building additional drones. You’re not going to need a lot of troops on this map, actually, except for when the gas is down, and even then you’re just going to want some basic defenses around your virophages. It isn’t until the end that a sizable force is required, you can just use some Infestors and infest a Battlecruiser and a Thor and turn the tide of battle.

Infested

With that said, it’s best to take it easy though. Just relax, build some nice defenses around your Virophages, keep your economy up, build up troops. Enjoy the long time when the gas is down to just strengthen yourself and make the rest of it easier. I personally took 30 minutes doing the mission, although you could do it much faster.

The bonus is kind of tricky; you need to get Creep Tumors near the science facilities. Virophages give you one free, so you can just use those or speed it up with a queen. The tricky part is that you need to clear the one on the western side; the Infested Terrans won’t do it for you.

The achievements are… easy, in a way. Defending the Virophages comes down to two steps: clear the area around them, infect them, and then build defenses on the creep. For killing with the infested units, just infest a few Siege Tanks, Thors, and Battlecruisers, and then let them go crazy when the gas isn’t running. That should be enough for you.

After all Virophages are infested and you’ve cleared your achievements / bonuses, just press F2 and attack / move toward the end.

Achievements

  • Just Getting Inside: Complete the mission.
  • Master of Puppets: Kill 60 enemies with infested units (the ones you infest with the Infestors). As mentioned above, it’s rather easy if you do it with the Battlecruisers / Thors / Siege Tanks.
  • Spreading the Disease: Infest ALL Garrisons and don’t let the Virophage die.

Hand of Darkness Guide

Reward: Mutalisk Evolution Mission

Bonus: +2 Kerrigan Levels

Introduction to Swarm Hosts

You have about 5 minutes to kill the Hybrid, me, personally, I see that as five minutes to build an economy. After that it sets in the entire motion of events where every few minutes, a Hybrid will unleash and you’ll have 5 minutes to kill it, so it’s good to use the free time now to get things setup. At this point I had the two drone upgrade on Kerrigan and Swarmlings, so I could get an army and an economy together rather quickly.

There is only one Hybrid that you should really concern yourself with, it’s the one on the far southeast corner. It has a rather beefy setup defending it. Otherwise, each one works like this: clear before it, pop open its holding cell (if it isn’t open already), and anyway it’s the last one of that series so worry with it last.

Final Battle Hand of Darkness

Otherwise, take care of the one up north, expand, the one southeast, then take care of the two north-centralish, then the final two. As for command centers, they’re located around the area. Find them and destroy them.

The final room has two Hybrids. I was around 200 food and quickly went down to about 120, so make sure you have a large army in the room. The room is rather clear, so you shouldn’t have any issues during the fight.

For the bonus mission, the Ultralisks are en route to the Hybrids. Free them to make the Hybrid encounters easier.

Achievements

  • Shattered Command: Destroy two command centers.
  • Power Underwhelming: Break three Hybrids out of their holding cell before they bust out themselves..
  • Hand of Darkness: Finish the mission.

Phantoms of the Void

Reward: +3 Kerrigan Levels

Bonus: +2 Kerrigan Levels

Unlocks: Ultralisk

The Ultralisk is like the captial ship of the Zerg. These heavy hitters can take a ton of damage, can regenerate on hit, and are just massive tanks, great for taking damage and pushing the swarm forward.

WALKTHROUGH

This mission is fun and is a bit stressful, but that’s alright because it’s not over tuned or anything. You’ll start off with a little bit of a tutorial describing what an Ultralisk is and then from there you’ll lose control of Kerrigan and only have Stukov to fight with. There are five temples and you need to stand on the beacon on each one, fight the incoming Hybrids, and then move on to the next. These Hybrids aren’t crazy insane difficult like the previous ones that knock everything’s health down to half, they’re more like send a decent army and you’ll walk away with most of your units difficult.

So at the start, go ahead and build up your economy, take the expansion, and start building up a light defense. You don’t have too long before Kerrigan’s health starts depleting rapidly. One of the things to always remember is that generally speaking, the units given to you at the start are enough to always complete the first objective, which is true here as well. You can use the units in your base to secure the first temple, leaving four remaining.

After your economy is strong, start making your way temple to temple. I used a combination of Ultralisks and Hydralisks, but you can mix and match any types of units honestly and you should be fine, although use something meaty to tank the Hybrids.

For the bonus mission, here is the location of the crystals:

Xel'naga Crystal Locations

For the achievements, well the first one is easy, don’t let Stukov die. Although, those of you who remember him from StarCraft: BroodWar might be alright with the prospect (or maybe not), but otherwise the easiest way to complete it is just make sure you have a strong enough force when you go to close the temples.

For the other achievement, select all of your units and focus on Hybrid down, making sure you don’t have any Mutalisks or other AoE units involved, and then switch over to the second Hybrid (two come for the final two or three temples). When it’s dead, switch back and finish the other one. Twenty seconds is a long time, so that should give you plenty of time to complete it.

Once all five temples are closed, you’re finished. The only other note is to watch out and don’t enter the bases, they are heavily defended and there isn’t much point in bothering with them. The game will warn you when you’re too close.

Achievements

  • The Phantoms Menaced: Kill two Hybrids within 20 seconds of each other.
  • Stukov Strikes Back: Don't let Stukov die..
  • Phantoms of the Void: Finish the mission.
