One of the more outrageous (and stylish) champions in League of Legends, Taric's power comes from his gems which give him some pretty useful offensive and defensive abilities. Used mainly as a support, Taric specializes in keeping the ADC alive and well all while attempting to subdue the enemy carry with stuns and blasts from his crystal armor. If you fancy giving Taric a try in the field, here are some helpful starter tips you get you of and running.
Prioritize Mana - A bit of a given for supports but especially true on Taric. You'll want to have a good deal of mana available at all times to keep your ADC healed up and to always have the option of throwing out a stun at the enemy. Chalice of Harmony is a great pickup for Taric for the mana regen and eventually, the cooldown reduction. Frozen heart is another given, both for the mana and the armor.
Aura Machine - The aura provided by Taric's 'W' is one of the more powerful and useful auras available to champions early in the game. If shatter is not on cooldown Taric gains a 500 range aura that increases friendly champions armor by 12% of Taric's total armor. Not only that, but when Taric activates Shatter it applies a debuff to the armor of any enemy champions within that range. Perfect for unleashing in the middle of a pack of enemies to make them vulnerable to your Ad Carry.
Play Aggressive - Few champions have a stun as long as Taric's right off the get go so be sure and press that advantage early. If you spot the enemy ADC out of position or pushed up to far lock them down with a stun and follow up with a damage dealing, armor reducing shatter.
Ult at the start of Fights - Taric the Aura machine just keeps em coming. His ult gives all friendly champions a buff to their attack power and ability power for 10 seconds. This is a huge advantage that lasts for 10 seconds! Make the most of it by unleashing your ult at the beginning of a team fight (preferably in the middle of the bad guys).
Passive Cooldown - Taric's passive will reduce the cooldown of his abilities by 2 seconds each time he melees after an ability is used. This is great for chaining a couple heals close together if you're carry is running low, or getting that shatter aura up quicker after using it.
Peel the Carry - After you've dropped a big ult on the teamfight your job is to peel for your carry. Your best tool is your stun so use it to stop any would be assassins in their tracks.
Ward the Lane - Taric is being played to his full potential when he is being played aggressively. Make sure you don't get caught during these plays of aggression by lighting up your lane with wards. When everything is clear make your move with a well-timed stun.
