Overview

Crushbone Keep is one of the many zones contained within the Echoes of Faydwer Expansion, and one of the few dungeons that can be utilized by the lower levels.

The keep is found amongst an outpost of Crushbone orcs on the far eastern side of Greater Faydark, protected by the surrounding mountains. The Crushbone orcs have a great distaste for most of the elves (or nearly all races for that matter) except the dark elves who have seem to have struck some sort of peace treaty with the residents of Crushbone long ago. These strong and commanding orcs have had no qualms capturing the other races and enslaving them to work their many mines.

Only the bravest of adventurers will want to venture into Crushbone territory, but if one is successful in penetrating the walls of Crushbone Keep, you will be rewarded with the marvels of all that is held within.

Minimum Level

The outer areas of Crushbone ranges from the late teens to early 20s. When actually inside the keep, the mobs range from about level 20 through the early 30s, and are generally heroic. With this in mind, I would not venture inside the keep until you are in your late teens at the earliest, and Crushbone will continue to be a worthwhile place to play through your early 30s.

Connecting Zones

Crushbone is found within Greater Faydark. There is a zone located inside the keep called The D'Vinnian Throne, which seems to be an heroic instance, levels
30-35.

Addition from RadarX (so Sav isn't blamed for it later):

It's worth mentioning that on the top of Crushbone is an instance called the Acadechism. If you are facing Crushbone (don't cross the moat), take a left and follow the outside of the moat around to a wall. Follow this wall along until you find a climbing wall. This zone is for level 60+. The loot is great (I'm expecting a nerf), there are 3 or 4 nameds to kill, and you will be dropping Dvinn himself in the end.

Quests

There aren't many quests within Crushbone that I found, if you have found others, please send them to me via email.

Outside of Crushbone Keep, in one of the camps, you can find a examinable box that contains the "Know Your Bixies" Lore & Legend book. Just inside Crushbone Keep, to the west is a weapons rack that can be examined to the the "Orc Society" Lore & Legend book. You'll also find an abundance of shinie ? all over the ground for the few collection quests that can be found in this zone.

"Belts of the Centurions" - One of the liberators, Elonca Nusback, found in the cave outside Crushbone Keep, sends
you on a mission to collect 10 belts from the Crushbone centurions. The belts don't drop with every kill, so you will
have to kill more than 10 centurions to get the drops. Note that the centurions inside the keep work as well. Reward: Crushbone belt and experience.

"Dishonored dead" - Morodag Greenbow requests that you help put the enslaved elves souls to rest. You need to slay
conscripted Koada'Dal and Feir'Dal. Then you need to slay the orcs that are reanimating the elves, those are the
thaumaturgists. Reward: Your choice of cape (depending on your armor type) and experience.

"Gruedheim Steel" - This quest comes from examining a weapons rack on the upper floor of Crushbone
and inside the Hall of Tactics (loc +2, +25, -59). You are given a piece of very old steel into
your inventory, examine that to start the quest.
You need to bathe the steel in blood from your enemies, to do this you must kill each type of
orc:

  • Just begun its campaign of evil = conscripts
  • Patrols the halls = centurion
  • Lurks in the shadows = emissary
  • One who inspires them = the oracle
  • One who delves into dark magic = thuamaturgist
  • One who instructs the enemy = trainers
  • A high ranking officer = legionnaire
  • One who delights in pain = torturer

Now you must search for the ancient dirt that the steel longs for: This comes from a pile of dirt in the lower
level of Crushbone in The Hold.

You are now asked to seek out a true son of Gruedheim by first seeking the advice
of one of the dwarves found in the cave in Greater Faydark that leads up to Crushbone Keep. You'll
speak with Turgo Bargedown who will then direct you to Burgef Steelwright, a blacksmith found just outside
the keep. Burgef will then send you to find his tools, which you get when you kill the guardmaster located in
the tents just west of the forge. Return to Burgef and finally claim your reward! Reward: you are given the choice of
weapon; beater, rib piercer smasher, or war axe and experience.

Solo Opportunities

Crushbone Keep is intended as a grouping zone, so if you are looking for soloing, this isn't really the place to find it. The sparse soloing action there is mostly happens outside of Crushbone Keep in the camps. Most of the orcs there are late teen soloables. Inside Crushbone, just inside the door there are solo mobs, mostly level 20 ^ singles. Beyond that front room, the cast majority of mobs are heroics.

Group Opportunities

This zone was made for fabulous level 20-30 grouping! Groups on the lower range of those levels will want to stay mostly on the main floor. The lower floor mobs range from mid to upper 20s. The mobs on the upper floor range from upper 20s to low 30s.

I found the best way to move through this zone is to simply fight your way through the halls and clear the rooms, one at a time. It's truly a great layout for easy grouping as long as it isn't terribly over crowded. When tons of players are around, there ends up being a bit of a tug of war for mobs in some of the bigger rooms. In these cases, locked encounters will make for less issues.

I hope you've enjoyed our walk through of Crushbone Keep. If you have any additions or corrections, please e-mail them to me and I will be sure to give you full credit!
