Overview
The wizard is an exceptional mage class with unmeasured damage potential. This class is best described as the master of the elements, able to bend fire and ice to their will and use it successfully against their foe. They typically wear robes and wield a staff or a knife, but weapons are rarely needed when they let loose their pure devastation in the form of finely turned spells.
Like all the mages, the wizard is meant to act as a solid damage class. Because of their sheer force, they are greatly desired as grouping DPS and are sure to find a home, no matter where they may roam.
Below we will review some of the commonly asked questions for the new wizard. If you have any other questions, or would like to offer advice on these topics, please drop me a note.
So what makes one decide to be a wizard, and how do you know if you'd make a good one?
If you are looking for an easy to solo class that can stand up to a beating when needed, then this is NOT the class for you. Wizards do not have the easiest time with soloing, and they depend quite a bit on others for reasonable gain of experience. This is not to say that they can't solo, any class can solo! It would just take quite a bit of patience and skill to do so with the wizard. With this knowledge, the best wizards are going to be those that not only have the ability to use self control, but also enjoys playing as part of a pack. With great power comes great responsibility, so wizards must know when to let the fury loose, and when to hold back a little for the good of the group.
What does one need to know when creating a wizard?
The biggest question people ask is which race is best suited for their chosen class. Honestly, in the end, it really doesn't matter all that much. Learning your class and performing with skill will take any player far beyond their starting race, so I always believe that the race you choose should be one that you will enjoy! If all else is equal and you really don't want to let go of those stats, then my advice is any race with high intelligence, which would be the Frogloks, Erudites, Elves, or Fae. But I promise, an Ogre or Troll wizard will be just as successful in game, and they look fantastic in those robes!
You may visit our guide to the races to help ease the burden of this choice. There you will find starting stats and a basic overview of each race.
Aside from that, wizards are neutral so your only other choice is where to start out your journey. I have my own personal preferences, but you all will have to make that call on your own.
Now that I'm a wizard, what do I do with all these character traits and achievement point options?
Where you put your achievement points will vary depending on how you choose to play your wizard and is something we will touch upon later in this guide when addressing the solo vs. group wizard.
For personal traits, you may take a look here for a run down of what is offered. For the mages, intelligence is the most useful stat, and one that should be focused one of traits and equipment. You need intelligence to create a plentiful power pool, because as we know, a mage without power is just a silly little wall flower! When intelligence isn't an option, work on your resists. These will be important for when you are unfortunate enough to become the target of your enemy's hate, which can happen quite often given the damage output wizards have.
Above all else, enjoy the class that you have chosen to play and take the time to learn all you can about your abilities, spells, and class options. A player that loves their class is a player that is sure to excel in it's performance.
Where do I go to hunt with my wizard?
We have a tiered leveling guide that allows for you to check out the best hunting spots for whatever level range you are in. Because wizards are neutral, you have a lot of options as to where to go and what to do depending on which starting city you choose.
