EverQuest II Leveling Guide
Tier 5 - Playing with the Big Boys Now!
Guide By: Savanja
Tier 5 pertains to the levels 40-49. These are the last levels contained in the original game of EverQuest II. Once you hit 50, you are required to purchase the expansion Desert of Flames to be able to advance any further.
These are great levels. I have always found it to be slow going at this point, but since T5 includes all of my favorite zones, I never mind! There is far more variety in this tier, and this continues to be true through out the rest of the tiers, and as they say, variety is the spice of life. Enjoy all that tier 5 has to offer!
Tier 5 Zones
- Everfrost
- Permafrost
- Feerrott
- The Temple of Cazic-Thule
- Lavastorm
- Solusek's Eye
- Rivervale
- Klak'Anon
- Obelisk of Lost Souls
Group XPing
Group experience has never come easier! All the major outdoor zones have heroic content to play with, but you'll always find the easiest and quickest leveling inside the dungeons.
Starting out at 40, Cazic-Thule is a perfect match. It's a challenging zone for the levels range, and it gives out fairly decent loot. Right outside of the temple, there are plenty of heroic mobs wandering about. You'll want to find a safe spot for your group and pull each mob safely to them to keep avoid getting too many adds.
Right inside Cazic-Thule, you'll find yard trash up front at about level 40. Go up the stairs and you find a sweet spot for lower 40s xping, just mind the golems, because they path around, and are all level 45 ^^^. This is a good area to camp and clear.
If you go back down the stairs and head across the way from the entrance into the tunnels, you'll find more challenging mobs. I wouldn't suggest going through here until you are in your mid 40s. The terrorfiends, found intermittently through some of the doorways, are level 49 ^^^ and can be quite tough without a full group. Also, when you are taking out groups of thulians, you'll want to knock off the lifestealers as quickly as possible, as they are pretty fierce, and always check around corners when heading into a room!
The next best place to lay some group smack down, would be Everfrost and Permafrost. For small groups, the glacial constructs along the path in Everfrost and perfect. For mid to upper 40s, the tundra terrors are very nice and easy, there are lots of pesky solo mobs all around, but those are easy to take care of.
Permafrost, is an amazing group zone for this tier. It starts in the mid 40s, and gets tougher as you go, topping out in the low 50s. The best way to xp in this zone, is to grab the series of quests found on the main level in the room of statues. Everyone in your group can grab these quests and do them collectively, this way you get great kill experience along with solid quest experience. This zone can easily take you all the way to level 50 without all that much effort.
A quite place to level with a group that is a little more out of the way, is the Obelisk of Lost Souls. I think this is a good zone that doesn't get the attention and appreciation that it should, so if you and your group have some time, head on in there and check that one out.
Solo XPing
I soloed nearly all of my 40s, just before Desert of Flames was released, in a mad push for level 50. I lived in the Feerrott and Everfrost!
In the Feerrott, I grabbed the many quests that you can find in the camps near the entrance. There is one camp set up for good and another set up for evil, on opposing sides of the path. These will having you cleaning up around the front of the zone, and are an excellent way to solo in Feerrott. Once done with those, you can make your way up the path and take out anything you come across. Feerrott is only really good for the lower 40s, after that, I'd head off to Everfrost or Lavastorm.
In Everfrost, I started out with the frostfins and ice frights near the front of the zone. Fighting in the water isn't my favorite thing ever, but it makes it easy if I accidentally grab aggro from a heroic, to leap out of the water onto nearby land.
Higher up in levels, I loved the open areas with the mammoth calves, bears, and galebreakers. You can spend a lot of time there, just pounding on anything that comes near you. Keep an eye out for that darned Tundra Jack and Iceburg, they took me out more than once when I wasn't paying attention!!
