Walking through North Qeynos, I'm tickled to see pumpkins placed around the city, masked creatures roaming about, and that silly old goblin by the Claymore. It's that time of year again, the Night of the Dead.
My first stop is at the goblin by the claymore. Here you get to do trick or treating extreme. Get plenty of treats fast enough, and you are rewarded with masks. The prize you get depends on how many treats you received. Just hit up all the locals for a "trick or treat" and hope they give you the treat, rather than the trick.
Then I am off to partake in the Haunted House. This is basically the same haunted house as last year, which chaps my hide a little, but I will get to that later. First, your walk through:
The haunted house is found on the northern end of North Qeynos. You'll want to talk to the greedy little goblin out front to get your ticket, and the quest, then in ya go! There is no turning back from here. Bwhahahaha..*cough..choke..sputter*...
When you first step inside, you'll first notice that the place is FILTHY! Believe me, the Lady of the house knows, and you find this out when you inspect the Butler's bloodied remains. He will the be first of many spirits you will need to release on this quest. You need to find the rest of the note, which is conveniently located on the desk. It tells you to get some chores done, which consist of dusting, sweeping, and fixing a few askew pictures. Everything that needs taken care of highlights when you run your cursor over it, but if you can't see the mess, then you are clearly blind! Once everything is all tidied up, the Butler's spirit is released and he floats off to his final resting place at last.
Now off to find out what happened with the Lord. He's found in the next room over at the end of a rather long table that looks like its seen better days. Again, after inspecting the remains of the Lord, you need to find another note. This on is on the table near the Lord, and it lists a few things that he needs to take care of; learning to dance with the wife, tipping the bartender, and playing with the neglected children. Before we go hunt down the wife, please stop by the short bookcase on the way out, here you can pick up a mask and note the location of the bartender's tip jar (you will need to know that info later). Then you make your way downstairs to find the Lady.
In the cellar, you will see the Lady and a couple of dance instructors. I gotta say, I've waited a long time on a man to get stuff done, but never THIS long. The dance instructors give you little icons to click to do certain dance moves, and you'll need to do em in order! Get too many wrong, and you gotta start all over again..pass, and you make the wife happy and this releases her spirit. Good job! Now we need to do something about those pesky kids.
In the same area as the Lady, you will find rotten food and another note, this one is from the children. They have starved to death waiting on dear ole daddy. /mourn Follow the glowy trail, which will lead you up 2 flights of stairs and over the little catwalk and to the teeny lil door. There's a aggro rat in here, but its not too tough (nothing in here is, it's fun!). There are also remains from the forgotten ones with a key that seems to open a door in the cellar. Go back downstairs and open the door that is behind that fugly tapestry. Here you will find those poor children. You will get an auto update when you get close to each of the kids that will release their spirits. Grab the coin off of the desk in the children's room for the bartender's tip. Run back upstairs, and drop that coin into the bartender's cup, and you have now released the Lords spirit. Go you!
But alas, a hero's work is never done. The house is still corrupted by unhappy spirits. Go back to the entrance and head back up the stairs. There are cobwebs that are just nasty enough to block your path, but luckily there is a candle near by that will burn through them! Take out the pesky aggro spider that's around the corner,.then up another set of stairs to the attic.
It looks all doom and gloomy up here. I'd like to know what kind of nut keeps a cemetery in their attic!? Amongst all the dead bodies, you will find a book on the ground..Read it! Supposedly the alter next to the book does something, but it never helped me, and it's hard to experiment when you have hordes of zombies flying at you. There will be several waves of undead, I hang out near the stairs and pull em towards me, one at a time. When you are all done, you hear a creepy cackle, and are transported from the house. Talk to the goblin outside to get your reward, which is a house item and a super cool mask. I gotta say, I was disappointed that this years haunted house was nearly exactly like last years (with a few minor changes), but the arrow mask makes it worth doing anyway.
All in all, this years Night of the Dead fun is a lot less fun, having already done it all last year. It's like wearing the same Halloween costume year after year..lame. Perhaps with the expansion work, combat revamp, etc, they didn't have time to sink into this project, but really, this was one of those small things that go a long way, and SHOULD have gotten some attention. They had it in their hands to put together something fun and exciting, and they passed it up. I find this to be a serious shame.
Keep an eye out for the Night of the Dead event, now on test, and coming to a live server near you, soon!
