Age of Wushu is coming to Android and iOS and bringing along with it the plethora of skills, acrobatic movement, and everything that makes the game Wushu-tastic. I've reached out to Snail Games to see how MMO the mobile port will be, if it'll be single player with multiplayer PvP, or if the open world PvP will be coming along with it, but beyond that it's really awesome that such a cool MMO is coming to mobile.

According to the press release, things I think are important bolded:

Age of Wushu Dynasty follows in the footsteps of PC title Age of Wushu, throwing players into a cut-throat martial arts underworld known as “Jianghu”. The game combines elements of the original title with those of Snail’s more recent mobile gaming titles, such as action dungeon crawler Taichi Panda launched earlier this year. “We want to create the same feel as Age of Wushu, which was very popular for PC, in a mobile platform,” said Snail Games VP Jim Tsai. “That has meant adjusting some of the gameplay mechanics to optimize for mobile devices, while keeping the inspiration and the design principles the same to create a unique martial arts adventure.”

Age of Wushu Dynasty builds on the innovative features of its predecessor as well as adding new mechanics designed with mobile in mind:

  1. 8 martial arts schools to choose from
  2. Vivid 3D world and traditional Chinese styles
  3. Acquiring and mastering various combat skill sets
  4. Tactical “Attack, Block, Break” combat system
  5. Two-handed virtual button control scheme
  6. Gravity defying acrobatic maneuvers
  7. Arenas, open PvP, and Guild Wars

So, the three things that stick out for me is optimizing it for mobile, using my favorite two-handed virtual button control (like a lot of 3d games do and it works suprisingly well), and PvP will be coming into the game.

Update: I reached out to Snail games to confirm that this will indeed be an MMO, which is super awesome!

This actually has me excited and the game is sort of on my radar. I haven't played Wushu in a bit, too much else on my plate, but this is encouraging. I'll keep a close eye on developments to see where this goes - this might be one of the first actual awesome MMOs to hit the mobile space and I'm interesting in what Snail Games is planning here.
