The words massive influx of new players is always welcome for a publisher and the players of a game like TERA. After all, nobody likes a dead server. This week Gameforge is boasting to have pulled in more than 500k new players to TERA in EU since its jump to free-to-play last month. Six new severs were opened to help compensate for the heavy influx of new players.
According to a recent Gameforge press release, the new influx of players puts the current number of registered users for TERA: Rising at over 1 million. Since the free-to-play switch, Gameforge notes that around 1.5 million new characters have been created by players with the Castanics appearing to be the most popular race and the warrior the most popular class.

TERA: Rising Over Half a Million New Players Since Free-to-Play Launch
New Model for the Fantasy MMO Is a Complete Success
Karlsruhe, 13/03/2013 The free-to-play version of the fantasy MMO TERA has launched successfully: Over half a million new users have registered for the game since the move to free-to-play, which brings the total number of players registered for TERA: Rising up to over one million. The games operator Gameforge opened six new game servers just a few days after the free-to-play launch in order to meet the high demand.
Since the introduction of the free-to-play version, TERA players have created around 1.5 million characters with which they can experience adventures in the world of Arborea. The battle-ready Castanics are the most popular race, with the Humans and High Elves nipping at their heels, while the Warrior enjoys the greatest popularity among the classes, followed by the Sorcerer and the Archer.
With the move to free-to-play, the world of Arborea was expanded by the Crucible of Flame dungeon and a 3-v-3 arena called the Champions' Skyring. In the future, regular content updates for TERA: Rising will keep on coming. The next such update, which will be released within the course of this year, will add a new feature to TERAs political system: Players who belong to a guild will be able to enter into an alliance and vie for supremacy against other alliances on their server.
TERA is a classic fantasy MMO, yet it has some key features that set it apart from the rest of the genre. For example, the sophisticated True Action Combat system is the first of its kind. Similar to the controls in action games, the player actively executes their attacks and spells, instead of just pressing a button. In this system, the position relative to ones opponent is also critical: Players precisely aim at their enemies by lining them up in the cross hairs. Even before its release in summer 2012, TERA was praised by players and press alike, above all for its richly detailed graphics and numerous innovations, such as the novel political system.
With an impressive portfolio of around 20 titles and over 380 million registered players, Gameforge is the leading provider of massively multiplayer online games (MMOs) in the western hemisphere. Based in Karlsruhe, the internationally active corporate group offers its online games in more than 50 languages. Its portfolio includes client-based game worlds such as AION, TERA, Metin2 (Europes most successful MMO), 4Story, Runes of Magic, Elsword, Wizard101 and RaiderZ, as well as browser-based online games such as the popular classic OGame, the award-winning Ikariam and mobile games. The company employs around 600 staff members with offices in Karlsruhe and Berlin.
