Yesterday SOE thrilled console fans with the news that DC Universe Online and PlanetSide 2 will be making their way to the PlayStation 4.

Taking to Twitter this week, SOE boss John Smedley was rather ecstatic about the possibilities of working with the new platform and offered up a few other tidbits about cross-platform play. If you were hoping that PlanetSide 2 PlayStation 4 players would have a chance to take a few shots at their PC counterparts, that’s unlikely to happen.

Smedley went on to state that DCUO players on the PlayStation 4 may be able to at least play on
the same servers as players on PlayStation 3.

As for the MMOFPS's arrival on the PlayStation 4, Smedley noted that the work that the core team programming PlanetSide 2's PlayStation 4 version is doing will lead to big improvements for PC players, particularly in multi-core support.

Smedley ended the Twitter discussion with something that will undoubtedly fuel the flames of speculation.

Make of that what you will but the EverQuest saga is no stranger to the console scene. EverQuest Online Adventures for the PlayStation 2 was one of the first iterations of MMOG-style gaming on the console.

In any case, I expect we'll learn more about EverQuest Next and SOE's plans for the PlayStation 4 at both next week's E3 event and SOE Live in August. So stay tuned for our live coverage from both events.
