Play The Half-Life Series for Free

If you want to relive some of the best games ever made or perhaps experience them for the first time, the Half-Life Series is free to play on Steam right now.   I can't put into words how important these titles are to the game industry and game development in general.  If you haven't played these title then you should, truly.... play them.  The original probably hasn't aged well, but the Black Mesa train ride is an iconic look into superb game development that everyone should experience.  You can watch it here (spoilers of course) if you are on the fence as to whether to spend the time playing.

Valve is taking us all back to the series after a thirteen year with Half-Life: Alyx.  Due to release in March, this is a title that Half-Life fans have been yearning for, much like sports betting fans yearn for this bonus code.   I highly suggest playing through the originals if only for the story, which is wonderful.

Half-Life: Alyx will be set before the events of Half-Life 2 and the episodes, but the games share characters and story elements. The Half-Life: Alyx team believes that the best way to enjoy the new game is to play through the old ones, especially Half-Life 2 and the episodes, so we want to make that as easy as possible,”  -- Valve

You have until March when Alyx goes live to play the following for free:  Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, and Half-Life 2: Episode Two. You can also play, Half-Life: Opposing Force and Half-Life: Blue Shift, which relive the first game from differing perspectives.

Half-Life: Alyx is a VR title that will require a beefy PC and a VR rig to play.  It's important to note that this is not Half-Life: 3.  Valve notes that the VR based title is a full-length game that has been developed specifically to take advantage of their own Valve Index hardware.  Other VR hardware will also work, according to Valve.

If you don't have time to play both HL and HL2, I would still recommend HL2.  Half-Life is a classic, but it is also dated and I'd hate to see anyone turned off the rest of the series because of that.

I remember how blown away I was when Half-Life came out.  Now... back to Black Mesa.

Head over to Steam and check them out.
