TERA's Associate Producer Stefan Remirez promised that TERA would launch this year at GDC 2011, but those plans seem to have changed according to a new Producer's Letter released today by Producer Chris "Chager" Hager. The latest update reveals that TERA's launch date has been pushed back to spring of 2012.

Delays are nothing new to the world of MMORPG development, but there is some good news for fans looking to get a shot at trying out the game before its official release next year. Hager announced in his letter that the team will begin an Alpha testing phase later this year. Most of the testing thus far has consisted of focused community play test events. A beta phase is also planned to begin in early 2012.

TERA released in Korea earlier this year. Check out the full Producer's Letter and official press release after the break for more.

En Masse Entertainment Announces Launch Timing for Acclaimed Action MMO, TERA

Award-Winning Action MMORPG PC Title Scheduled to Launch Spring 2012

SEATTLE — August 3, 2011 — En Masse Entertainment™, a new publisher built by gamers and focused on delivering fun and innovative online games, announced today that the launch of its award-winning and highly anticipated Action MMO, TERA™, is scheduled for spring 2012. Development and production continues to both add new features as well as refine confirmed elements to deliver an innovative, action packed experience set in a visually stunning world that can only be discovered in TERA.

“Adding time to our schedule will help us ensure we exceed people's expectations for TERA,” said Chris Lee, publishing VP of En Masse Entertainment. “The game’s action combat and depth has generated a lot of interest, and we are committed to making sure every aspect of the game lives up to our standard of quality.”

The recipient of several industry honors, including 9 awards and 17 nominations coming out of E3 2011, TERA is a new class of game that combines all the depth of an MMO with the gratification of an action game. Players master their destiny using a pioneering dynamic combat system in which player skill—not just stats—determine success or failure in a richly detailed game world. TERA’s player-driven political system allows individual player actions to influence a world where old rivalries are erased, and disparate races must form a common federation to stave off destruction by marauding monsters and warring gods.
