Just now, I received an email from CD Projekt RED detailing that the current February 2015 release date for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is no longer viable. In this humble email, CDPR humbly states that they need twelve more weeks to ensure that their most ambitious project to date is the game they want to put out, as well as the game they want its fans to play. It's been a long wait already for The Witcher's community, so I'm sure that this news will not be well received. However, the community does seem to be better about calling out slaps to the face and how often they'll cancel their CE whenever something doesn't happen in their favor, so hopefully the reaction won't be too bad. The new release date is now May 19, 2015. Here's the press release:
Dear Gamers,
Ever since we started working on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we knew it would be an ambitious game. We wanted, and still aim, to give you an incredible experience, an epic adventure in a vast, completely open fantasy universe.
The sheer size and complexity of The Witcher, key features of the title, have had a decisive impact on production. Now, nearing the end of our work, we see many details that need to be corrected. When we release the most important game in our studio’s history, we must be absolutely sure that we did everything we could to limit any bugs to a level that will allow you to enjoy the game thoroughly.
With this in mind, we took another look at current workloads and what they mean for the team. Even though everyone is working at full speed, we concluded that we need another 12 weeks, so we are shifting the release date of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to May 19th, 2015.
We owe you an apology. We set the release date too hastily. It’s a hard lesson, one to take to heart for the future. We know what we want to do to make Wild Hunt one of the best RPGs you will ever play. And we continue to work hard to achieve just that. So, we apologize and ask for your trust.
Thank you for the all support you show us on a daily basis. We truly do appreciate it. It has fueled us in our passion since the start and will continue to do so.

I'm still incredibly excited for this game, and given how I barely have time to play the games that I have access to now, I'm quite okay with it being pushed back. I know more than one person, though, who will likely be completely heartbroken with this news. How about you? Does the additional twelve weeks time change your opinion for The Witcher 3? Do you think that twelve weeks will be enough time, or have they pushed back the release enough already? However you and I feel about this, though, I will say one thing: at this point, the game will need a level of polish that will be unrivaled.
