Rock Stars, Lawyers, and
I-Coulda-Been-a-Contenders



It had to happen some time. I could sense Ten Ton Hammer's beloved
Boomjack building up a full head of Boomjack steam over the subject of Vanguard and its distribution of assets to its affiliate sites, or the lack thereof. The result? An
editorial in his daily column, Loading..., which bore this disclaimer:

The views expressed in Loading… are not necessarily those
of TenTonHammer.com, it’s agents, garden gnomes, Kirstie Alley, Tom
Cruise, Vin Diesel or men who play female characters in World of
Warcraft, hereafter referred to as “Manginas”. The following program
contains scenes of violence, harsh language and sexual content which
may not be suitable for younger children.

As well as this:

I have no doubt that Vanguard’s pedigree will sell a
boatload of copies. I have high hopes that Vanguard will be an
enjoyable game, but if their treatment of networks supposedly
“affiliated” with them is any indication I fear for the paying
customers. It’s as simple as, “TenTonHammer produces lots of great
content without us giving them anything, so why give them anything? We
had better boost exposure on some other sites.”

The gist of Boomjack's editorial is that Sigil has unfairly distributed
exclusives such as screenshots and beta scoops to Vanguard affiliate
sites and non-affiliate sites alike without paying significant
attention to hardworking affiliates like Vanguard Ten Ton Hammer.
Personally, I agree that something's askew here, although I tend to
believe the problems fall more in the realm of oversights and an
over-zealous CEO than any intentional neglect on Sigil's part. Even so, sites
like Vanguard Ten Ton Hammer can't thrive without cooperation from the
game's developers.



Now, don't get me wrong; we at Vanguard Ten Ton Hammer still love
Sigil, and still love Vanguard. We'll keep producing great content for
you (we're not going anywhere at the moment). You can even look for a
