Wargaming.net takes the "buy over build" option.

Wargaming.net is probably not a household name, but they are an 80-person development team with headquarters in New Orleans and development team in Minsk, Belarus (look that up on your atlas folks). After recently acquiring another Minsk developer, Arise, WG has now licensed the use of BigWorld's suite of technology to aid in their next gaming venture. If you don't recall a few months ago, BigWorld announced some sizable upgrades to their technology suite. When I first heard of BigWorld, I anticipated start-up companies being their bread and butter, but I'm rethinking that after reading what Wargaming's CEO, Victor Kislyi had to say:

“Having built many engines from the ground up, we were looking for a complete solution to develop our first MMO that will save us time and eliminate technical risks”. Victor added, “BigWorld’s Technology Suite, along with their world-class support, is key in allowing us to develop our title quickly...”

Maybe the teams not wanting to build a new engine will be the core constituents of BigWorld's user base. For more information, go to Wargaming.net and for those looking for engines, head over to check out the BigWorld Technology Suite.
