Sometimes a game comes out of nowhere to grab hold of the MMOG community. It surprises gaming veterans and acquires a groundswell of exposure because it was simply so unexpected.
World of Tanks is this type of game. It was literally unheard of, but before you could say M3 Stuart it had a fanbase of tens of thousands and was growing faster than anything in the genre.

What games surprised you when they launched? For me it was the original Portal. There was plenty of hype, but none of it prepared me for the game.

This last week has seen Blizzard reveal a massive amount of info on World of Warcraft patch 4.3. The most interesting is not the Tier 13 gear or the set bonuses, or even the details about the Deathwing fight. It’s the lore of the five-man content.
Riot Games has been touting their Dominion update for League of Legends as an evolution of the MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) genre. Today their Dominion plans become a reality as the new update is deployed to a horde of competitive players.
Some crafty EVE Online players managed to figure out a way to get their own video to stream in-game a couple of weeks back and while some devs would patch the discovery up and write it off as a bug, CCP decided to keep it and allow players to convert and play their own video.
BioWare is getting some new support with a little luck of the Irish. Today the developer announced the opening of BioWare Ireland, a new state of the art facility that will serve as a global customer service center for the upcoming launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR).
