Turbine Addresses Recent Forum Outage and Security Concerns
Turbine updates the community on a recently discovered security issue that has kept game forums down for days.
Earlier this week we reported on a rumor that began circulating that Turbine's database had possibly been compromised. Turbine later explained that the forums for The Lord of the Rings Online, Asheron's Call and Dungeons & Dragons Online had been taken down to investigate a "potential issue" that had been discovered.
Today Turbine has offered more details on what happened and they are urging players to change their game account passwords as a precaution. Turbine recently discovered an issue with the security of The Lord of the Rings Online web application. To protect player accounts and avoid any possible issues, the forums were taken offline and remain down until the investigation and additional security work is completed.
Recently, we were made aware of an issue with the security of our LOTRO community web applications. Protecting player accounts is a top priority and we take any potential issues seriously. As a result, we closed all of our forums as we investigate the situation. We are continuing to investigate and the forums will not reopen until this work is complete.
As an additional precaution we recommend that all players change their passwords by visiting myaccount.turbine.com. Please remember to use unique, hard-to guess passwords that are not associated with other online services or sites, and always look for and report unusual activity in your account to Turbine customer support.

Turbine didn't indicate in the post that any personal details had been compromised, but players should still heed Turbine's warning and change their account passwords as a precaution.
