A Review of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2

Time to set aside free slots for the moment and brush up on your RPG skills. An online action game, The Division 2 is a sequel to the game of the same name. Announced by Ubisoft in 2018, a lot of gamers thought that sequel was either in development hell or dead.

Until it was released in 2019. But is it any good? Let us find out!

The Setting and Plot

The game is set in a futuristic timeline, particularly in Washington D.C. In it, the world was devastated by a plague, and you will be taking the role of an agent from the Strategic Homeland Division—which is where the title was taken from. Your job is to rebuild the city, along with other real-time players, but you can also play on your own if you want.

As a sequel, the events in this game are happening after the first game, and you will be playing in a world that was ravaged by what is called the Green Poison—a deadly strain of small pox that was engineered by humans and released to the world by eco-terrorists.  You are a part of a US organization, called the Division, and your job is to neutralize enemies and threats as you deem fit.

The Gameplay

The Division 2 is a role-playing game from the 3rd person point of view. It is an open-world shooting game where you can join three other players to complete missions as a team.

At the start of the game, you can customize your character and create your own agent who reflects your persona. Once you get started, you are equipped with several firearms, including explosives. As you progress, one of your goals is to obtain high-end guns, which will make it easier for you to move forward.

Weapons are categorized and rated based on seven areas, which are:

  • Accuracy

  • Damage

  • Rounds per minute

  • Magazine size

  • Stability

  • Reload time

  • Damage drop off

As you move along, you can also customize these games and get better sights, scopes, and barrels. You can also get various gears to make you less vulnerable, such as vests and other armours.

Also, your character has to gain XP as you play, as your XP level will determine what kind of new skills you can unlock. For one, you can deploy gun turrets and then also learn how to conduct mine-clearance operations.

Your fellow players can take different roles, such as a medic. If you want, you can join a clan and make contributions to the clan XP. The higher your clan XP gets, the more benefits and rewards all members can take.

Our Take on the Game

The Division 2 is of the few sequel games on this planet that is done right. This is far superior than its predecessor and doesn’t have the lacklustre performance of the first game. What makes this one shine is that throughout the game, you can feel that you are making progress. The XP you gain can be used to improve your skills, and you can get better quality weapons and armour that will certainly complement your style.

For example, you can get better assault rifles as you rise in your level, and this gives you the feeling of superiority against other players and enemies. It is completely worth it since you have spent hours to get those XP to get to that level.
