If
there’s one thing for certain in the MMO world,
it’s
that the RIFT development team never fails to impress with each new
update they
make to the game. Like all their major updates, this one is huge so
let’s hop
right in and get to it! Set to go live September 18th, the majority of
this
update is focused on a new 5-man dungeon, two new 20-man raids, and one
new
2-man Chronicle.

It seems the populace of Telara can never catch a break
can they? I still blame myself all those years ago when as my first day
as a
Defiant Ascended, I went back in time to prevent the destruction of the
world.
It looks like all I really did was possibly delay the inevitable. Why
am I so
glum? It looks like the end may be nigh upon us once again.

Inyr’Kta,
the Hive Queen of the Architects is back and
preparing to unleash her creations to destroy the very planes of
themselves.
The first thing you’re going to need to do in order to put a
halt to her plans
of destruction will be to grab control of the Infinity Gate. This
20-man raid
will test the skills of even the best raiders. The gate works much like
a
Stargate. You’ll need to dial up the boss you want to pull
into this plane in
order to take them down. There are two battles you’ll need to
complete first
before gaining access to the final boss. The two can be done in any
order, but
both are going to be a challenge.

First
up is Breaker X-1, aka Onyx. This is a prototype
construct that hasn’t had all the bugs quite worked out of
it. While it’s
leaking radiation everywhere, part of your raid is going to need to
enter his
body to do battle while your companions continue the good fight from
outside.
Have fun with that!

The
second battle you can choose is going to require a
healthy dose of the three “C’s”
– communication, coordination, and cajones.
Why? Because you’re going up against Swarm Lord Twins Mordan
and Viktus. You
may know them by their aspects instead of their names though
– Life and Death.
You’ll be traveling back and forth between their portal
realms and you’d better
be listening to each other when you do for one failed spell interrupt
could
spell disaster from this duo.

Once
you’ve beaten the construct and the brothers, it’s
time to take on a Karthan juggernaut called Volan. Huge
doesn’t begin to
describe the size of this behemoth. For this battle, it’s
time for your tanks
to step up to the battlefront and take it on the chin.

Along
with the Infinity Gate 20-man raid, the team has
provided a new 5-man dungeon called the Realm of Twisted Dreams.
Grandmaster
Atrophinius’ nightmares containing his deepest fears have
taken on physical
form. This dungeon is for level 60 players and is expert mode only.
It’s also a
precursor to the next major addition to RIFT. You can read all about
this
dungeon and its challenges href="http://community.riftgame.com/en/2013/08/28/realm-of-twisted-dreams-new-5-player-dungeon/">on
the official site!

Next
up is the new Chronicle, entitled Infernal Dawn!
This is a 1 or 2 player dungeon and is the Chronicle version of the
Infernal
Dawn raid. In an alternate universe, Laethys was never defeated. She
has spent
her time gaining strength and is now planning to come into our universe
to
destroy it. We obviously can’t have that so you’ll
be sent to her universe
first in order to stop her. She’s not without her tricks so
there’s a method to
the madness when you find out your targets.

Maklamos
the Scryer has to be taken out first and for
good reason. Laethys uses his visions of the future to win all her
battles and
we definitely can’t have her armed with such an advantage.
After Maklamos, it’s
time to take out the general of her armies, Rusila Dreadblade. Hidden
within
the bow of her pirate ship, the Dread Fortune, you’re going
to need to lure her
out. Just watch out for the wild saw blades while you do!

Once
Maklamos and Rusila have bit the dust, it’s finally
time to take on Laethys herself. She…uh… has a
thing for gold, so enjoy that.
This is one battle that’s going to keep you on your toes. I
won’t give away too
many secrets, but we do have one piece of sage advice –
don’t stand behind her.
Trust me.

So!
You’ve gained control of the Infinity Gate. You’ve
taken care of Atrophinius’ nightmares. You’ve even
gone to an alternate reality
to defeat an enemy that was getting ready to come into our own universe
to
destroy us. Sounds like a pretty full plate to me. There’s
just one more piece
of this update puzzle to make it complete.

The
second 20-man raid will be unlocked a week or two
after the initial update goes live. When it does though, be prepared
for the
raid of your life. href="http://community.riftgame.com/en/2013/09/11/rift-2-4-beyond-infinity/">As
noted on the official site,
Inyr’Kta
has fled to Planebreaker Bastion, a war foundry at the heart of the
Architect
Empire within the Plane of Earth. There, protected by powerful thralls,
she
directs the construction of a doomsday automaton. Destroy
Inyr’Kta and her
towering construct before she can conquer the elemental planes
… and our own.

You’ll
be flying through the air, battling bosses, flying
through the air some more, and doing it all over again. This platform
hopping,
ass kicking, raid of awesomeness was a thrill to get a sneak peek at,
but I’m
willing to bet playing through it live will be an even bigger thrill.

After
all we’ve discussed already, you’d think that would
be the end of it all, wouldn’t you? Well, the team has even
more than that
packed into this update. I mean, come on… we are talking
about the RIFT team
here, right? The Autumn Harvest is right around the corner (as is
Halloween).
Instant adventures will now be cross-shard. There will also be new
barbershop
options, new PvP ranking gear, and more. To top everything off, ALL of
the
content in update 2.4 will be available to free-to-play players. Now
that’s an
update of epic levels!
