For anyone who hasn't looked into Star Trek Online yet, now seems like a good time to do so. As originally announced, the game will take place in the year 2409, thirty years after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis. Ahh, a nice blank gap to fix any continuity errors in.

Wait... you didn't think they'd actually leave 30 years of history empty - did you? I think not!

Cryptic Studios has begun to fill in the blanks, and the latest update is concerning the events of 2382 - only three years after Nemesis. Romulans are facing Civil War, Spock (venerable old Vulcan that he is) gets his proposals rejected, and the Klingons get a little aggressive. It's starting to look like its own series unfolding.

The biggest part of this updates deals with the Romulans (biological cousins to the Vulcans) who are heading down a path to civil war, as political in-fighting continues to grow. Meanwhile the Unification movement, represented by Ambassador Spock, once again attempts to push their agenda by seeking the support of the Federation Council. Ultimately though, the Federation declines to support the movement to unify the two races, as the Vulcan members of the council aren't too keen on such an uncertain and essentially illogical idea.

If you're a Trek fan, go read this even if you're not interested in the game for some reason. If you're not a Trek fan, read it anyway because it's a good read!
